Can Luffy be considered a martial artist?
All Paramecia users have special fighting abilities, but Luffy uses his abilities very smoothly, as if he's moving to a strong qi flow. In addition, he created the gear technique which makes his fighting style DBZ-like.
Old Bum: Hmm... young man, you have the muscle structure of a kung-fu genius! Fulfill your potential to your fullest! Buy one of my ancient treasured kung-fu manuscripts and become a kung-fu legend!
(sorry didn't resist )
dude, how freaking insane would it be if Luffy actually knew some real martial arts rather then just going on battle experience and instinct, since he already has those combined with Martial Arts and this new second gear >_<.
I somehow make the most thread-ending posts (or deal a critical blow to a topic). Maybe my thinking is just too different from everybody else's. It makes me feel like an outcast.
well he has 10 tens of training befor senting off to see so he should have some training in hand to hand
He's an idiot savant brawler more than a martial artist. He just fights like someone on the street would mixed with his abilities.
However, since he seems to have at least learned how to preform Soru from Blueno, I guess that counts as him learning martial arts. Wonder if he'll learn how to preform a few of the rest of them.

[sarcasm]EVERYBODY loves it when you compare a series to DBZ. Just everybody does. I mean, every stinking series there is can be compared with DBZ, we LOOOVE it so much[/sarcasm]

i agree... DBZ IS THE COOOOLEST THING IN THE WORLD AND EVERYTHING SHOULD BE SCALED TO IT CUZ... DBZ IS JUST FREAKIN COOOOOOOL!!!!
meanwhile... i think liffy has fighting skills just not a specific martial art. hes proven himself thrifty in battle and is quite hardy with a arsenal of attacks and defensive manuevers. he has his own style of martial art that is unique because of his DF ability. thats the best way i can explain it
I'd like to die with the songs I love stuck in my head. I hope to make the most of these hollow bones we become.
I raise a toast to the the souls that sang all along. I've been gathering friends to just to make some sounds,
before the ship goes down, I've been making amends by making the rounds before the whole world ends

I'm with Shamgi on this one. Luffy's a brawler at best. He may have trained to a certain extent, but that's akin to working on a punching bag or lifting weights. Usually he just goes on instinct and thinks up his cool moves on the fly.
Yes... Dragonnutz is "cool"...
Ironic thing about mangas is that Eichiro Oda is a Dragonball manga lover even though the anime is basically a waste of broadcasting time.
Anyway, even though Luffy has no prior formal m. a. training, he's a natural. However, because he's a natural people would naturally not think of him as a dojo abiding m a.
Geez, I make the most confusing topics. If I keep thinking on this I'll become as lost as Zoro.
