in one of onepiece chapter, mihawk came to the island where shanks and his crew rest, shanks have the guts to challenge mihawk first, do you think he can match him in swordplay, because if i'm not wrong, i think shanks also use sword as a weapon

Shanks has a sword and in the video games he uses it, but it's never been seen in the manga. It's my theory that Shanks isn't really all that physically strong (I won't go into it) and I think he was just joking around with Mihawk, showing their familiarity and Mihawk's respect because he didn't get all that mad about it. Plus in that conversation we learn Mihawk and Shanks have talked casually in the past, specifically about Luffy as a child.

So do I think Shanks could match Mihawk? Well Mihawk is supposed to be the greatest swordsman in the world, so based on that logic and if it were a sword fight, NO, I don't think so.

Thats a good point, they dont have to sword fight. One of my favorite lines from OP "If you wanna fight us, you better bring a battleship." (Vol.1 Chp.1)

so you guys think shanks doesn't use sword and he is not strong? but if i'm not wrong, one of his crew go to deliver a letter to white beard or black beard i forgot, and his crew got about 96 millions bounty, almost as high as luffy, correct me if i'm wrong

You are not wrong about Rockstar's bounty, but it's been firmly established that Bounty does not equal strength, combat ability, "power level". Rather it measures that person's threat to the World Government. The higher the bounty, the faster they want that threat eliminated. I've been saying it for years but need to go back and find exactly which chapter they finally said it in the manga.

Unfortunately the term "douriki" has been introduced measuring physical power...damnit...curse you Toriyama.

And I'm not saying that Shanks isn't "strong", but we have no evidence of his combat prowess in the comic yet. All his respect and infamy could come from his actions OR he could very well be a god of fighting. We honestly don't know yet.

I have to say, its pretty flawless logic. Its been said:
Mihawk is the GREATEST swordman in the world. If shanks could beat him in a sword fight, HE would be the greatest swordman. pretty simple.

I think it's not neccesary that if you beat the greatest swordman, you'll become a greatest swordman. It's depend on how you fight. For example, if Luffy fight with Hawk and he win, do u say that he's a 1st swordman? No way.
Same as Shank, we don't know his ability yet. Shanks is of course strong, I think he's equal to Hawk, if he's not they can't talk friendly like that. Hawk and Shanks respect each other. That's why they're at the same level, I think.

I think Mihawk saidhe had no interest in one armed contender so I think at one time Shank used top be a gr8 swordsman.

I think to be a Shicibukai you gotta be able to fight very darn well

Rockstar has a bounty of almost 100million. To be given that high a bounty means that you are a threat to the government. To be a threat to the government, you have to be really strong(or else you wont be a threat,right?)

Still, Rockstar is very humble to his boss,Shanks. This means that Shanks is really very very strong.

From Shanks' and Mihawk's conversation,it seems that they have fought in the past and both of them survived those fights. This means that both of them are at the same level of strength. Is this still true even with shanks having 1 arm? Maybe...maybe not. We'll just see, wont we?
