You are not wrong about Rockstar's bounty, but it's been firmly established that Bounty does not equal strength, combat ability, "power level". Rather it measures that person's threat to the World Government. The higher the bounty, the faster they want that threat eliminated. I've been saying it for years but need to go back and find exactly which chapter they finally said it in the manga.

Unfortunately the term "douriki" has been introduced measuring physical power...damnit...curse you Toriyama.

And I'm not saying that Shanks isn't "strong", but we have no evidence of his combat prowess in the comic yet. All his respect and infamy could come from his actions OR he could very well be a god of fighting. We honestly don't know yet.

BTW Rockstar was sent to White Beard, Edward Newgate.
It was about chapter 219 where Aokiji stated the bounty/threat situation. Shanks is undoubtedly strong but we don't know his fighting style so we can't make any judgements about it I think it's a mix of his skill and his actions that give him his infamy. From that chapter it seems that Shanks and Mihawk did fight at one point and I'd like to see a flashback of that one but as to what happened in that fight who knows, they could just be friendly enough that they regularly spar together.

Also as I've said many times ignore Douriki it's measurement technique is a subtechnique of Rokushiki and I honestly believe it was just to show the internal organisation of CP9 and after this arc we won't hear about it again.

the part where his arm got bitten by the sea monster makes him pretty week probably he was trying to save luffy and was unguarded.... since we dont know the true extent to shanks strengh... in a sword fight maybe shnak will win but in a real fight no one knows untill they fight.... but base on the strengh of his piraate group which i think is only second to WB he must be a least quite strong to be the captain..... u till now all the pirate's captain are the strongest in the group...

It was in chapter 96, "#1 Evil of the East" where Lt. Cmdr. Brandnew presents Luffy's wanted poster, the crew arrives at Loguetown and when Mihawk visits Shanks.

Yes, thank you! It was chapter 320 more specifically.

When I first read that months ago I was so ecstactic! A concept I had held dear for years was finally justified by the author himself!

And you I hope you're very right about the douriki.

Whoops out by about a hundred my bad, I'm surprised I didn't notice it I blame a poor nights sleep. As for the douriki situation I feel it's time we had a reasonable look at it rather than going "Oh no Dragon Ball Z power levels again!" To that end I'm uploading one or two pages from the chapter where it was introduced so we can sort this out and make a conclusion which will hold until Oda himself clarifies it.

Here are the pages of note

    teawase

    ranking

The first image is the teawase itself one of the key points I feel is that the user measuring must be hit, in a life or death fight only someone very confident in their ability to absorb a blow such as a rokushiki user would submit to that. Second note that Fukurou says Rokushiki Ryuugi, Teawase which is translated as rokushiki style "game or bout". This means that the technique itself comes from Rokushiki the game or bout part I take to mean it's more commonly used in sparring situations.

As to why I feel the only purpose is to rank the CP9 members take a look at the second image where we're presented with a nice little table of rank for the CP9 members. I think this is because without something like this we would be unable to clearly define a ranking order aside from Lucchi who is obviously the strongest most evil of them all and as such marked for Luffy. In every other situation there was always a ranking of some form or other Baroque Works number system, Eneru's priests and even Arlong's chiefs of staff. This usually also gives an indication of the fight order, Zoro getting number two on the list Sanji number three etc. CP9 however is too loose for such a ranking system, as befits an asassination group hence Douriki.

Also when Blueno was getting the crap kicked out of him he didn't even think of Douriki. Fukurou will probably mention it most for comedy effect during his fight but otherwise once this arc is over I don't think there will be mention of it again.

SOMEBODY JUST SHOW ME A SCAN OF WHEN SHANKS HAS A SWORD... DAMN

I'd like to die with the songs I love stuck in my head. I hope to make the most of these hollow bones we become.
I raise a toast to the the souls that sang all along. I've been gathering friends to just to make some sounds,
before the ship goes down, I've been making amends by making the rounds before the whole world ends

Uh...not sure where that came from, but here ya go.

    Shanks with a sword

That image is from chapter 234.

Good analysis Pandaman! Going over that chapter again makes me think about how nuts everyone in CP9 is, more so than Straw-Hats! They beat the hell out of Fukurou for just unzipping his mouth, Califa accuses everybody of sexual harrasment, Kumadori tried to commit seppuku but stopped it with his own tekkai...
