Thread: One Piece, gone from 4kidstv

according to anime news network, "According to the 4K!ds website, Fox Net, and local Fox listings 4Kids TV is dropping Mew Mew Power and One Piece beginning this Saturday.

Currently we have no information regarding if/when these shows will return to 4Kids TV."

I say its for the better good because they made the show dumb with the shitty dubs.

The voices didn't matter to me that much, in fact I think they did a decent job with Luffy and Zoro and many of the bad guys. I could even understand some of the censorhip choices such as changing all alcohol to juice, because most of the crew is underage in America.

However it pains me to see the weapons such as guns changed to look like squirt guns, or one time I think they even changed them to Loony Toons style springloaded hammers. Guns are a fact of life and I think the unreasonable level of censorship and denial we've come to in America is ludicrous.

I also didn't agree with many of the plot exclusions. I'm thankful most filler is left out, because most of it I feel doesn't reflect the manga properly. But they took out the Laboon arc, Little Garden, and much more from individual episodes. Sure they can get away with it with clever editing/dubbing, but I felt that not only are those stories interesting, entertaining, and show us more of the characters' personalities and how they respond to those situations which is central to me.

It seems if the series continues exclusively on Cartoon Network it may recieve the Dragonball treatment, loosening the censors and opening up the possibility for uncut* DVDs.

I think its pretty disappointing. I got turned on to OP when i saw it on 4kids. 4kids certainly sucks. just like anything that leads to the further pussy-fication of american kids. but i want OP to have the big audience that it deserves so Oda can make that $$$. Hell, he deserves it. Does anyone know why it was cut? Not popular enough? Are they gonna replace it with an extra episode of Bratz? *gag* *retch* *fall over dead*

Wow, that's interesting to hear, FoxBox being the gateway. I never think about it like that since I've been aware of One Piece since it's inception in 1997, but didn't really get into it till around 2000. Well at least 4Kids did something right

One Piece is plenty popular around the world except, amazingly, in America. It broke sales records in Japan, is currently one of the most lucrative licenses . The manga and anime has been running in many countries for the last couple years and continues to.

Oda has achieved the highest status a mangaka can, save for having an award named after him and having his name known by every middle school student in America*, so I don't think you'll have to worry about him too much

On a side note I think the Bratz animation is one of the worst possible influences on weekend morning T.V. I think this as a future father. And as a perverted man it still has no redeeming value...

*That title is currently held by Akira Toriyama. While I acknowledge he's been a powerful influence (good or bad) in the manga world, I think he's very overrated. His work is enjoyable and his gag manga, which is his true passion, are funny but his story telling ability is no where near someone like Eiichirou Oda.

Oh, the irony...

Anyways, I didn't have much of a problem with the 4Kids series (although Luffy's laugh is more annoying than the original VA's), but I hope Toonami will continue the series.

Maybe they're just done for the season though. I heard 4Kids only optioned fifty or so episodes, so maybe the season's just over. I give Fox mad props for airing all those episodes continually though. Not even Pokemon had a season that long.

I don't care if some would consider the American voice acting for One Piece to be "passable" for some of the characters, the show deserves better, and I'd rather not see it in America at all than have it treated the way it has been.

So if this is a complete drop of the show by Fox, then this is good news for me.

They drop it cause Fox only purchance like 50 some-thing episode. And since the show rating is not doing as well as they hope (cause everyone else is watch the sub i bet), they decide to discontinue it.

And I'm glad, everytime I hear Usopp and Sanji's voice... make ...me.. wanna... stranggle....every...one...

Luffy voice actor suck too...

I'm just too use to the anime I guess...

now we wait for some other company to either buy the series or watch it drop from American soil completely.

Whered you get his info? Id like to know what kind of ratings it gets. i cant imagine it being any lower than any of the other 4kids shows... Them finishing their 50 episode package and being too cheap to purchase more sounds reasonable.

I make it a point to watch or TiVo Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles every weekend

Also, I don't know how the production cost vs. licensing work, because the 50 episodes they have are made of like the first 100...all that work to cut up a fine, fine story...

its all for the good i guess but wth, even one ep from them i don't get to watch co'z its not possible and i wanna see it just for the hell and lagh of it heehee.
