But self gained knowledge at the level they posses it requires a good deal of intelligence.

Nobody taught Nami math. Nobody taught Usopp to be like he is. Nobody taught Robin to be so smart so young. They all learned it themselves, and doing so would require a great amount of intelligence.
his third line already stated that, your post is pointless, its not saying anything.
nami can do math, usoop can fix thing and invent--> good intelligent----third line say intelligence comes from natural gift

the thing that makes nami smart is that she has the capacity to learn and understand new things. Luffy dubbs anything he can't understand as magic, so he can't be very bright

Just to clarify, capacity to acquire knowledge means the ability to get information, not the amount of information one has.

why does everyone think robin's smarter than nami?

i'm not even gonna say nami's smarter or anything, but knowing ancient language and know some crazy archeology doesnt mean she's smarter.

she know lots about archeology because its her field..what make her special is that she know "the ancient language" to aid her in some deep crazy secret of the OP world or whatever

nami in a way, also read books--know much about weather, pressure, density, etc--make a very super close correct map for almost like..all the island she has drawn.

would it make nami smarter than robin if she can read ancient merman language and found out its more deadly than the one robin/franky knows? interesting huh?

i'll just give them an equal amount of intelligence to end the arguement..cuz no way to know exactly unless someone send oda the question who's smarter, nami or robin

Intelligence measures what one does with the knowledge one has. IQ is the ratio of mental age on physical age, it also measures the rate at which knowledge is acquired. Hope that clears things up.

@poster above who says that Stephen Hawking has an IQ of 280...if that's true, it means that he could do ten times more with ten times less knowledge than an average person...I'll look THAT up!

People with especially potent mental capabilities are recognized as genius. (Do I have to give an example? *whine whine*)

Nami and Robin are regarded as geniuses, because they have special mental powers without defect in general mental capability. Luffy can also be regarded as a genius, but he can also be regarded as an imbecile. He is best described as "special".

(Actually, I'm a bit reluctant to post this because I feel that I am overanalyzing the topic, but I have already written stuff down, but I don't feel like erasing. I am also feeling increasingly sleepy. Maybe I should just lie down and rest instead of typing on and on pointlessly to waste time. Then again I'm enjoying myself and am actually already 3/4 asleep. Ah well, zzzzzzz.)
