Seriously guys, the chance of Enemy-boss level-arc got Ohko-ed in OnePiece? (not to mentioned BY A SIDE CHARACTER), are we talking "fairy tale" here? ^^
and I'm agree that Ussop win was a frickin unplanned, obviusly, but you (yes, you BD ^^ ) can't take the credit from him (or Oda), remember that he save the (whole) crew from perona just bein the negative person?, are we gonna take that from him too?
my point is in the OP's world, sheer luck is also count as your.... power obviously ^^ ( Luffy vs Enel is one good example for this )
btw kraz, Franky & Robin just havin faith in their nakama, that Ussop somehow will get the job done,

Well Kyros hasn't disappointed neither. Not that I think Mingo is dead.

I'm not taking that away from him, I'm just saying that Oda fucked around with Usopp for nothing...he just ended up getting pummeled and winning with luck. And Perona was "luck" as well, but at least he fought her with a plan or something. Oda fucked up with Usopp this arc. Hopefully, things like these won't happen again.

I'm sure Oda will clue in to what happened during that fight later on. As having Ussop (knowing he can't win and resigned to death), make Sugar know he wants her to eat the tabasco ball, desperately you might even say, to provoke Sugar to feed him the ball, like a psychological battle of sorts. The plan wasn't for Ussop to win the fight, but to scare the shit out of her. In fact, Franky did a great job at stalling the guys outside, because, even if Mingo knew they were after Sugar, he couldn't send reinforcements because Franky was holding everyone up there, instead of him trying to get down there. Yet again, it could've been all luck, though I must say, Ussop's character development was flawless. He matured again as a character when he had already done it before during Water 7, which with Robin's entire presence vanishing I must say it had a tremendous effect on him.

Come on, how can you say his character development was flawless when he did the same fucking thing with Kiss during Arlong Park?

Kiss is a pleb compared to Sugar and Trebol.

I could get behind the idea of Ussop getting away with murder due to sheer dumb luck, it happens, but at the same time I wouldnt go as far as to call it development, let along "flawless" development.
Again I dont have a problem with Ussop wanting to retreat in the face of overwhelming foes and numbers, but its in the manner of which Oda depicted his retreat in such a cowardly and spineless manner. It was even a stupid gamble he made to return to the fight out of pure guilt and he was lucky that someone didnt put a bullet in him, stabbed him or have Sugar turn him into a doll instantly (which would make the entire mission a complete failure).
I do not believe the objective was to achieve the outcome in the manner of which it did, and was completed out of sheer dumb luck on his part. All i give Ussop credit for was being the butt of a running gag, which i enjoyed only at the end due to epic awesomeness of his face, in which he will not be shaking off anytime soon. The only development I would want out of Ussop following this episode is to realize that his LIES have serious consequences and jeapardizes not only his own imagine but the lives of others.
"He is now declaring his words to the WORLD!"

The lied will probably still be a part of him forever, I just want him to become a bit "manlier" already...

Jajajaja, ease up guys, I just wanted to get some discussion going. I agree I went out of my way to say his development was flawless. However I will say that, at first I was as upset by his turning tail, then I think I understood why he did it. I just hope Oda clues in to the events that happened, however I think there are more interesting things to tackle.
PS: Am I the only one to think that Robin being turned into a toy made a huge impact on his personality?
