i dont think yall are right abu that... i think luffy like Zoro is just incredibly stong on his own... hes a pirate and his devil fruit makes him strtchy... it multiplied his strenght... think of it like this.. if hes just a normal weak ass kid (how old is luffy.. hes gotta be at least 20 right???) how would his body survive the impacts when he breaks rocks and what not. think about it... the rubber body multiplies his narutal strength by that lovely physics equation Force = Mass * Velocity (the rubber gives him crazy velocity and when he makes himself into a screw (twisting his arms ie Gomu Gomu Rifle) just make the velocity that much more dangerous)... thats why luffy is so strong...

    Best post of the thread.

Also, as Silvercross stated I doubt the mangakaa has actually thought that far. I mean, maybe it's just really cool and convenient that he's this strong. :P

In the OP world, regular physics doesn't apply. I mean there are giants who are so massive, if regular physics applied, they wouldn't be able to move.

I think the reason luffy is so strong is because of limitless potential. Everyone in OP has limitless potential (even usopp) and it emphasizes the point that looks can be deceiving (luffy's a scrawny ass boy with 100 million bounty!!)

    Mysterious, no?

I think that Luffy only appears "skinny" cause he is a rubberman. When he was little and on his home island (we can assume from hints) that he trained his rubbe pistol non-stop meaning he would have gone through extensive training. Also when Luffy punches through rocks and stuff, i think its cause he winds his arm back utilizing the stretch and recoil quality of rubber.

I recall seeing Luffy with some impressive abs in the manga arts and such.

If we talk about being skinny and strong at the same time- take a look at Sanji or Zoro. Do they look especially muscular? Well, yes, you say, Zoro has some muscles and Sanji uses legs, but does it really counts?
Well, if you remember how Zoro was training in Alabasta?

Well, this is just a manga, it isnt supposed to be copying the real life rules...

i bet later on in luffy's travels, we might see super devil fruits or fuits with dual powers. powers that help each other out like a speed fruit that also gives steel like resistance to to withstand mach 1 speeds

This is kind of off topic, but force is actually mass times acceleration, not velocity. An object can have velocity without any forces affecting it.

In a few of the fights when he gets serious you can see the muscle development on his arms and such, besides strength isn't all in the muscles theres also the strength of the tendons to consider, thats how you get some weightlifters who are actually quite slim but can still lift amazing amounts. As to the dual fruits I don't think thats going to happen but we already see evidence that the fruits alter the user to be able to safely use their powers or Aokiji would have died of hypothermia or lost his fingers due to frost bite years ago.
