I'll apologize right now if this is a question already widely discussed, which I'm betting it is. And I'm sorry if this is a waste of a thread.
Haki, it seems to be the next step in the development of the Straw Hat Pirates, right? Now, is Haki the same power the Skypians had? When they predicted the Straw Hats moves, did they call it Haki or was it something else?
It sure can't disable DF powers.
Well, there happens to be different levels of Haki...
Edit: Now I remember. The ability in Skypea was called Mantra.
It's hard to discuss, but you could say that attacking someone with Haki imbued objects will bypass any DF powers they may have including be able to anyone with logica DF.
Using a burst of Haki will knock out anyone with out a strong drive or resolve.
Or just using Haki in your fist is another way to enhance the power of your attacks (not exactly sure to what degree, but I figure maybe internal damage to an extent also)
Also there are different levels of Haki, but we've only heard of one slightly explained.
Also I do not believe ALL the members will have a the skill to use Haki I'm thinking the top tier fighter Luffy (he's already shown a little), Zoro (debatable, but he's show hints of being able to use it), and Sanji (his heart burns!!).
If any other members learn to use it it will be on a much smaller scale I believe, without them being able to do burst or anything, but maybe being able to physical attack some DF users that would be untouchable or read some movements.
Well it sounds logical that not everybody in the crew would have the same ability of Haki. On amazon island everybody had the skill?
But I think most of them would be able to use it, though Brook and Franky being not completly human might not be able to use the skill.
Looking back I find it strange that the Strawhat crew didnt pick up Mantra skill (though Oda hints that u are born with it) or Luffy picking up Haki when he was on amazon island for his upcoming fight in the prison.
Oda might want to avoid crazy powerups?
Wasn't Red Shanks using Haki when he was on WhiteBeard main ship? (knocking out lower and medium WB crew members)
It's possible that the people from Skypiea simply didn't know it was called Haki and simply called it Mantra.

Maybe some of you who do martial arts know this feeling of their opponent if he is VERY driven... feels like pressure... there is no better word to discribe it. Im sorry...
And in an exaggerated version, in a manga world, this pressure feeling is made into a wepon.
What Shanks used was just his full resolve. A aura with intense fighting spirit, and overwhelming confidence... yeah maybe this describes Haki a little bit.
Shanks resolve was a unsighted aura of power... while this other Haki, which Rayleigh, Luffy, and Shanks (when saving Luffy) used seems so be focusing this aura into single points.
This is a simple enough question. Haki has shown up numerous times over the series. It wasn't explained right off the bat, but a number of people have used it. Haki literally can mean will power or ambition. It is used as a term for the person's spirit energy. This, of course, is a common anime thing (lthough it usually has some other name and origin of use) that I assumed would turn up with the creator being a DBZ fan. I assume if a person has enough ambition, they can learn to control their spirit energy (infusing attacks with haki like the amazons did with arrows all that or defense with their bodies). I wouldn't call it pressure due to the different uses the amazons had it for.
I am to assume that anyone who is taught it or tries hard enough themselves can learn haki. Obviously, it seems that each Straww Hat Crew was sent to a place they thought would be the most important place to go. Luffy fell straight into a place where he can learn to get more powerful and save his brother (and probably quell the war before it happens). This is definitely the new step for the Straw Hats.
They used the term haki the first time when shanks meets up with whitebeard. He used his immense haki to make people become knocked out (another common anime thing). I would venture to guess that Hawk Eyes can use it as well as the giants on that one island (although to a more limiteed agree). For all we know, Zoro could have partially figured it out already with his cannon move and sword that can cut metal but not a leaf thing that he did way back. I also think that the Rokushiki has something to do with haki or works like japanese and chinese martial arts where they have different names for the same thing (chi and ki).
Mantra is most likely a bit different. They were born with the ability. That is not to say that some aren't born with the ability to use haki either, but it is unlikely.
Well, that's what I've gathered so far. It can't be a pressure though. There are different types of haki as it seems. Houshouko haki or whatever was it? It definitely is being used as different types of spirit energy. The spirit energy of the chosen ones or the king's spirit energy. You see where that is going. They're building up for saying he is the one chosen to be the next Pirate King and all. That's another story though. Hope this helped.
if i remember correctly, luffy showed signs of being able to use haki when he met the flying fish riders. he knocked out that bull, that the sanji looking guy was riding, with his haki or spirit whatever.
