Thread: Is It O.K that no one dies in OP?

I was just thinking about how much I hated it that nobody in Bleach dies and suddenly realised that it's the same in One Piece. But somehow it doesn't irritate me in OP; I actually like the fact that everyone survives(am I being hypocritical?). This could be due to the fact that I love all the characters in Op, while the ones in Bleach kinda anoy me. Or it's the fact that in OP EVERYONE get's to live while in Bleach the bad guys die and only the good ones get miracle healings / saves every 10 minutes.

Anyway what do you think? Is it Ok in OP? Is it OK in Bleach? where/ in which manga isn't it OK, where is it?


(Oh and flashbacks don't count)

Personally,I don't like character killed,even in naruto.but meh I don't even read naruto that seriously nowadays.who care about stupid yellow-haired ninja and an emo guy...
OP...IMO,the comedy is so intense so you won't need someone dying to further the story or to develop a character because the characters in OP itself always developing by its own way.(I actually really hate usopp when he fought luffy,but then he apologized now that's cool)
Bleach...It's ok with me,probably because the latest chapters is so cool....hehe
but if there is someone good to be killed,I'd love to see...(forgot her name)orihime's friend that can see ichigo in shinigami mode...the black-haired.

One Piece has a better story. If a death is done well, then it helps the story. The Perv Sage had to die (Naurto). Luffy has been close to dying a couple of times.

OP is a fun adventure manga about a dream, deaths and worries would make it more real and ruin the dream like quality for me.

Bleach is a dark-ish and brutal and about whatever it is about, saving you loved ones or smth. You cant really get by in a world where some monsters eat and kill for fun when you only slap the bad guy and tell him to not do it again.

You're actually calling Bleach dark? Its a shounen for chrissake. Try reading Berserk or Gantz.

There are obvious deaths in all three One Piece, Bleach and Naruto.. . If mangaka doesnt kill people on left and right it doesnt mean that noone dies, i think we arent reading the same manga.. .

For example: In the Ennies Lobby arc pirates were confronting marines and i doubt that noone died there.. . However if the actual main characters does not die it is because you are reading shonen and the mangaka is not you but the guy who actualy draw it and created that world. He decided not to kill any main characters and so far the story is freaking great... so there is no need for that.

Bleach is not dark, saving your loved ones and caring for your nakama is the same thing in every freaking manga and COMMON SENSE.

Try reading:

Berserk, Gantz, Devilman(retarded story, retarded ending), Elfen Lied, Hellsing and many more with the Seinen ideology.

while I would like to see some named characters die(e.g. pell) the story is good enough that it generally doesn't matter.

i think its fine

It bothers me from time to time (=> Pell is a good example, as well as the Francky family, I expected at least some died) but overall I like Oda's choice to not kill people and especially enemies as it gives them a chance to redeem themselves (and thus it's not the simplistic "they are the bad guys, I am the good one, let's kill them all and the world will be a better place" anymore).

Of course this wouldn't be possible if OP was not what it is : a dreamy, funny, laid-back manga..


Btw, as dekciw I also think lots of unnamed people died along the way, it's just that Oda don't show them because there is no point to and it would ruin the mood.
