Default Old Style vs New Style

I was watching the One Piece anime and reread some great parts in the manga, and thought which do I prefer? The old drawing style of Oda, or the new one? It was a tough decision and I've come to the conclusion that, I prefer his current style.

Though the art is undoubtly "different" (or however would you put this) to other mangaka, I think it still has an image that fits his characters. Though Oda's style is more realistic before, the special moments he captures in his new style makes me forget that he ever had an old one and I feel it makes it more emotional then serious (otherwise thats just the story).

Are you referring to the manga? I honestly haven't seen a change of art style... so I chose One Piece is One Piece.

The only change of style that I can really remember is the fact that in the start Ussups nose is slimmer and has a sharper point.

Oda's style has matured a lot since the first volumes, that's for sure. Now if you could post pics or tell to what volumes you are referring it would be easier to make an opinion !

The older style is below and before Skypiea and the current is above the red line and after Skypiea.

I choose these characters to compare to show the difference in Luffy as a male, Nami as a female, Chopper, and Shanks which there are large gaps to his appearances.

Hope this helps to what I mean

It's hasn't changed that much. You see that in Ruffy and Chopper. The pic of the new Ruffy looks way better, but that's because the older pic shows him in a funny pose. The tend to be much more simple drawn.
If you look at chopper it's the exact opposite. The funny and therefore simple pic is the newer one, while the older looks better.

Shanks looks pretty much the same to me in both.
The biggest change with those pictures seems to be Nami's hair.

Oda hasn't changed his style that much. The characters just get older and mature a bit.

There is a similar thread in a French forum : One Piece - EastBlue.Net :: Voir le sujet - Nouveau style graphique

For me the style hasn't changed much, but got refined and improved, so I like the current one better but I don't know if we can really speak of a change of style

Your pics are better. But it's still hard to say.

I'd still say that the "changes" are due to the fact that Ruffy is older now. So he's drawn a little more manly and not as kid like as before.
That's the case in the last two comparisons.
On top of that the size of the picture is also important. Normally the smaller the picture is the more simple it is drawn and vice versa

From what I observe, I believe that the characters are growing along with Oda and his art style, which makes this manga that much better as we grow a long with them too.
