Thread: Future Shipmate

Luffy originally planned to find at least 10 nakama to join his ship (based from ch.1). Including himself as the captain, a swordsman, a navigator, a sniper, a cook, a doctor, an archeologist and a shipwright compose his group of 8. Brook, the afro skeleton is a possible future member since he's a musician and Luffy wanted a musician from the very start, apparently for some entertainment.

The Strawhats are distinct pirates coz' even small in number, there is diversity among themselves. Luffy can pick whatever he wants-a magician, a pet parrot, a DF user, a clown or an okama, to fill the 10th spot, but, he may also not get one.

Because their next destination would be Fishman Island according to Kokoro (after the current Gecko Moria/Florian Triangle arc), they will absolutely encounter mermen in that place. We know that Luffy can become capricious on any occasion and a thought of getting a recruit is possible, just like in the case of Brook. Now, getting a merman crew member would sound cool coz' they get a member that can scout and attack from underwater. And they are powerful. Another Arlong (good guy) would complete the picture I'm thinking.

It's just a speculation.

while I agree a merman member would be nice, I'll take Brook over any merman any day^^

yeah the merman could be useful for getting the DF users out of water if the happen to fall into it XD

my guess is that the strawhats are going to encounter mermen after this arc. that means they'll be getting the final two members in quick succession... i don't think it's gonna happen.

don't get me wrong, i think a merman would be cool. i just prefer brooke =D

its got to be someone with an elemental fruit.
like acid fruit, water fruit or wind fruit. (i know most of them arent available if we consider the fillers and movies, but fillers and movies dont count as part of the story. so)

The merman/maid would be a pointless as a df user. So we either have one or the other. I also wish for another female character. There's 3 in total right now if you count Vivi.

We got a reindeer, cyborg, ex-"villan", I wouldn't be surprised if they got Brook or a mermaid. The problem with Brook however, his destination is to be with that whale. He could just join the crew and forget about him, like the giants at water 7, but that's not Strawhat like. They don't take detours to their destination, and Enies Lobby was an exception.

It would be extremely cool however, if a shichibukai joined the crew.

Brooke will definitely join the crew.
After they found Onepiece they can go back to Laboom.

didn't luffy and his crew promise they definitely come back to meet the whale after he became pirate king...

+ brook doesn't know about Luffy's promise, I'm thinking once he finds out that Luffy promised Laboon that once he was the king he would return, that Brook will help Luffy keep his promise just as Luffy helped Brook keep his (by returning his shadow).

Making Brook's reason to join to be "for a promise".

The only thing this doesn't fit with is all of them (cept maybe chopper, though he has a reason that can be stretched into this) they all have a specific reason to travel the world, Zoro to get stronger, Nami to make her map, Ussop to be a warrior, sanji to find all blue, chopper to be a (pirate) doctor, Robin to find the polyglyphs, Franky to see his ship travel the grand line.

so it fits, but it a stretch like Ussop's and chopper's reason.
