Thread: So i was reading this manga

Fairy Tail- and i realized that Natsu and Luffy are the exact same character with the travel exception on Natsu's part, go on read three chapters i'll wait

so anyways, do you guys think that the author of Fairy Tail is ripping off One piece or what do you think about it?

I've read this before.
As far as I can remember he is using the same drawing technique that Oda does.
That's why the characters look like they've jumped out of One Piece.

But since there are not unlimited ways/styles to draw characters, it's not surprising that they look alike.

The story and the worlds it's playing in are different, so it's not just a rip-off.
I think Fairy Tail is a very good manga and I hope it goes on for a long time.


The thing about Natsu-Ruffy is, that it's not just Ruffy.
Goku, Naruto, Ruffy, Natsu. They are all pretty much the same person.
They are naive, good hearted, have a stron will, high stamina and they eat a lot.....

i think i remember reading that oda-sensei and the author of fairy tale (whose name i don't recall) used to work together as assistants of Watsuki Nobuhiro during rurouni kenshin so i guess some similarities are due to happen

there has been a whole discussion about it in misc series some time ago and, as what has been said in this one too, the mangaka of fairy tail worked with Oda before, which explains their similarities... Personally the art (which is more a praise than a rip off) didn't bother me more than the main characters, which totally looked and acted like Nami and Luffy mixed with Ace :P

Other than that, it seemed to be original enough

Naah, Fairy tale looks so much like the previous work of this mangaka - "the Rave Master" - Grey and Musica are quite similiar, Haru and Natsu have lots in common and the girls, Ellie and... what was her name ... are quite simmiliar too.
