Thread: Most tragic past

Now, I've noticed One Piece has a habit of making main characters' past progressively tragic, starting with Luffy's and Shanks losing his arm until Robin's Ohara tragedy.

So who do you think has the most tragic past?

I'm going for Robin...I mean the entire Ohara tragedy coupled with 20 years with nobody to really trust in- can't see anything beating that.

they all had a tragic past, but there is little doubt that none had a worse one than Robin
(Nami's is almost as bad, but she found her nakamas way sooner than Robin)


As for the less tragic (while we are at it), it should be Zoro's i think, though it should be hard to always get lost xD

Obviously Robin - she had hard childhood (like Chopper), lost the dearest to her (like all of them) and for many years she was alone. She also had a little choice in her life - she needed to betray others to survive.

The least tragic would be Luffy's past - since Shanks only lost his arm.

I dunno about Luffy or Zoro's past...I wouldn't quite count them out yet since we hardly know anything about them. I mean, we only just found out *spoiler for anime exclusive watchers* Luffy had a grandpappy who's a marine hero and a daddy who's the most dangerous man on the planet...but I guess that's just speculation.

I have a habit of answering my own questions....

This is gonna sound a bit...over-sensitive; but I read Robin's past in one straight sitting late at night, and, yeah, it felt like I'd just lost someone myself.

Her past, so far, has the most complex reasons for her to be considered a tragic character.

hmmm to me its a tie between Robin and Chopper... Robins was really sad but Choppers story really made me want to cry.

A massacre of her hometown is a bit hard to beat.

but... when the doctor ate the posion mushroom, knowing that would kill him, but to still not disapoint chopper, and when he believed the doctor where trully ill, he went to rescue, even though it was a trap, he was still happy that they weren't relly sick...
and wen he died, his hat flew over et chopper's feet... It was so sad... so sad...

hmmmm: guy looses his arm vs best friend dies vs mother dies and father goes away vs being stranded on a Island with a murdorous pirat with nothing to eat for 40 days vs working for tha guy who killed your mother and alway being alone vs being kicked out of the tribe having nowhere to go being hated then only guy who cares for u dies because you poisoned him vs no parents gets raised by evil people then all her friends die she has to live a life in fear, hated by everyone forced to a life of crime your existence being seen as a sin vs teacher getting draged to prison for execution and ones body being smashed in hundred pieces.

Luffy doenst have a sad past, does he? only his grandfather was unkind to him....how sad^^
