the dragon theory has some merit. but it just doesn't sound right. but the idea is cool.

uhhmm maybe the D signifies being a member of a gang, a clan, or a tribe? so it's very possible that everyone in one piece who has a "D" in their names all blood related...?

It could stand for Dee.

lol "Monkey Dragon" Luffy. Funny that if this is it he has two animal names with no similarity.

i think its their last name, Luffy and Ace are brothers, Gol being their grandfather as there is a chapter(forgot which) in hte manga where a marine sais " youre a lot like your grandfather" and gets shocked and dosent wanna speak about Gol... but i really dont think it's got anythink to do with them eating a devil fruit, because if so then there'd be a helluva lot of people with "D" ith the names

Gol their Granfather? Luffy is 17, I don't see how Gol could find time to father a kid while exploring the Grand Line for who knows how long... He was what? late 30s early 40s with that huge smile of his?

And the marine you're talking about is Ao Kiji explaining to Luffy he's a lot like his grandfather. Even now though, there's not enough info on Luffy to tell who his grandfather is.

How long has it been since the Age of Pirates ended when Gol D. Roger was executed? I believe it was at least more than a hundred years, maybe more. So it's quite possible.

However, I don't think random speculation on what 'D' stands for is going to lead anywhere. We've got flimsy evidence at best to tell what 'D' stands for but it's much more likely to just say that those characters with 'D' as an initial are related.

Age of pirate era starts clearly at 20 years after we saw volume 1 chapter 1 when luffy is still a kid, if i' not wrong.

Gol D. Roger was killed 4 years before luffy was born and that is when the age of pirates started.

I would like to know more about him though. Somehow he's facinating, though I hope that he's not as much of a spaz as Luffy. Though Shanks seems to have a similar personality trait as Luffy but he is not a 'D'. maybe theres another kind of relationship between the D's (one that is not blood) hm
