Yeah before readig it even I thought what everyone, that haven't tried it out, assumed; bad art + pure childish craziness = lame show (the north american version of the anime shown on TV did not help either). BUt yeah once u read a few voulmes the character really grows on you, and you start to enjoying the art style, which really fits. Look I even drew/made a sig in tribute of it

here i am just noticing the thread wanting to bash the OP and having GGpX shoot me down... whatever i think the manga really got a leg up was after they crossed into the grand line. thats when they meet all the best characters and it only gets better once Robin is in the crew. =]

So we all agree that the manga picks up right at Logue Town. XD

well, to some of us, logue town is the place where OP really picks up...personally tho, I am taken since the first few chapters (I started with the first tankobon)....the premise of OPverse is so captivating...and the potential of the manga to become a neverending story/saga...well, i am a fan of pirate stuff anyway...

OP does have some flaws honestly, for example, most luffy's fights are b.o.r.i.n.g. <<well, i'm too old to be inspired by shonen's fight scenes>>, but the flaws are adequately covered by Oda's limitless imagination, which makes the OPverse (the characters, the story arcs, etc) so goddam good. . Concerning the artwork, well, Oda's is an acquired taste, and not for the faint-at-heart.

We are not OP fanboys, but bashing Narutards is so satisfying.

the largest interest in luffys fights are what wierd moves he though up, otherwise i have to agree on that one. another, less important, flaw is the time. Some people say that oda states all the travel times (too lazy to check myself) and that it adds up to around 2 months... my opinion is that the story should have progressed over at least 2 years seeing the åhysical growth in the characters (especially coby)

That would be pretty ridiculous if it were only two months, too short a time period for all that has happened. Rogue town is one of the greatest parts of the manga imo, but I too liked it from the very beginning. I actually never bought manga until I tried the first volume of One Piece and soon decided that it was much better than the anime. So I bought all the rest and had to download because it was coming out too slow. Still, it is best out of a book.

Random but good advice: Play Metal Slug.

I too liked it from the beginning but after realizing it got the same pattern each time they encounter their enemy, i left it for a while.... And the way luffy's fight is so long and boring
until recent W7 and enies lobby arc. I bought all the tankoubon i left and re read it again...
And Thankyou Oda for Enies Lobby arc that brought me back to OP.

the arcs seem to have a pattern - yes, 1. conflict builds up, 2. fights to resolve conflict (with every mugiwara has sufficient airtime) 3. the aftermath (getting new members, new bounties, new powers) - despite this, all the individual arcs has their own twists and turns, the best examples are alabasta and w7, and oda can be quite creative when it comes to the other fights, especially zoro's and sanji's. But one of the best things about OP is the overall arc of their adventure as a whole.

I mean that the same pattern repeated before they enter grandline... but after they reach louge town (atleast), the story begin to develop....
So i said the story really develop very well after they enter grandline... now that we are going to the latter half of grandline, i expect more development here....

As far as I knew, there's no manga that don't have a pattern, every manga have it, right?

about the long so-called-boring luffy fight, personally I enjoyed it, but then again, maybe it just me
