What I Hate About One Piece

One Piece is the best anime/manga there is, in my opinion. However, there's one thing that I truely hate about it and that's the waiting time. Yes, the time it takes from one action scene to another. The story is great, hands down, but the waiting time is stretched out too long. I've being reading the Water Seven section for a long time...and I'm guess it's gonna be a long time before Luffy kick their asses. I wish there are fighting scenes cuz i really enjoy the creativity and complexity of the battles.

it's true that with all the "changes in the plot" (don't know the word in english :? , fighting scenes have been a little bit rare.... but it's a great arc though, with a great and deap plot in it (and we don't have seen it all yet 8) ) !!
and personnaly, i didn't miss fighting scenes... :)

lasts chapters have been really quick in the action and figthing scenes are back ^^
wanze vs sanji, francky vs a cp9 guy (the new one... don't remember the name ^^.... seems strong), and zoro who cleans the way for the train :lol:

the first train is at less than 20 minutes from the arrival, and luffy is really near.... so you will have the fights you're waiting for (and me too ^^) in the very near future :-D

For me, it's the placement of the back stories. It's great that OP tries to show the motivation and events that define the characters, but a lot of the time, they're placed right in the middle of the climax of the plot, forcing the reader to wait six or seven chapters to get the the final sequence that is over in a chapter or less. It drags on and on and it makes me think that the suspension of the climax is just a ploy to get people to keep buying the manga. For the same reason, I hate it when a short sequence gets stretched too much such as the 6 second sequence before the bomb on the clock tower exploded in the Alabasta incident. During those six seconds, lots of speech and things happened.

there were lots of speech, but it was to make the event even bigger.. and it didn't seem too long for me :D

but i'm sure you've liked the last two chapters (370 and 371) ^^

but there are also people who thought that this was too quick.... :? ^^

yeah, was too quick IMO, 2 more panels and I would have had appreciate the fight a bit more.

i have watched most of the top anime (i won't say what or else ppl is gonna start gunning me down) and i still find one piece the best. i guess their character are the best and the relationship btw the char, as well as the originality of fighting style. not like any other fighting anime which basically have some kinda dragon ball style generated energy.

i don't think the waiting time is a problem since every anime is the same in this case. and seriously, an anime cant have 80% fighting cos they gonna run out of moves. and maybe you won't realise it, but it's impt to build up the fighting tension actually. it has to inbue some kind of meaning in a fight. almost every fight in one piece has a reason behind it.

what i don't like one piece is the warship filler arc. it really did makes me feel sleepy while watching it and ended up no decent fighting scene right at the end too. however, filler arc like G8 is even better than some main arc.

another thing is when the marines are chasing after going merry, it can fire off lotsa shots but will not hit the boat when it's "not supposed" to get hit. and when going merry "supposed to" get hit, it will get hit at the first shot but too bad somehow it never sink. it's alright but i juz find it a bit fake especially when ALL the shots miss.

i tink one piece lacks a bit on the music part too. some episodes are just talking and almost no music is inside anyway except the ending and opening theme.

despite all that, one piece is still the best for me! character development, plot, potential, originality are all one piece at its very best!

I understand that a stretched sequence is like a slow-motion in action movies to allow the audience appreciate its details. However, I have a pet peeve of sticking to rules. I don't care how impossible the rules are, but once you set them up, you live by them consistently. For example, I really hate it when a superhero "forgets" his superpower. So far, there is nothing that suggests time runs differently in OP world. Thus, 6 seconds there are the same as six seconds here. If Oda-sensei had to include those speech for the readers (they were not conversations), he could have made them into thoughts. It'd have had the same effect and since thoughts are much faster than a speech, it wouldn't have violated the nature of time.

It's not a very big thing, but since we are talking about "what I hate about OP", I might as well include it because it has a similar feel to my complaint about the back story placements.

But I get you. People will complain no matter what. We are talking about preference after all, and there are no absolutes in it.

i also hate when rules are broken... but a reason why i love OP is because the world is well thought and with no (or few/nonimportant) illogical things... (unlike.. naruto by example ^^ :p)

and yes maybe this one would have been better with thoughts instead of speech, but i don't remember well, but i don't remember that there was lots of speeches... and it was more the different guys speaking in the same time than a dialogue..
