Actually I thought it was very impressive with Usopp telling everyone to jump into the sea. And also the way it goes in the end was really sad. I'll tell you, never in my life have I ever expected that I would be that sad over the loss of a ship. Heck, even if it were my own bloody ship. Oda did a great job here imo, and I always expect the best from that guy. I thought this arc's action was drawn out, like it was in Skypiea, but he always makes up for that afterwards. But this arc owns skypiea imo, mainly because of all the great parts in it. Really, Usopp's fight with luffy, how they saved robin, and the whole going merry thing were the top 3 things that made this arc really special. And those are 3 things that will be remembered about this manga, not just the arc. Well, for me anyway.

^Me after watching Spirited Away, because I discovered the best movie ever!
Random but good advice: Play Metal Slug.

GM reappeared and can talk. Isn't this things make u cried? When Gm said sorry for Luffy cs, Isn't this the best part of the arc? Atleast it is for me...

Well Oda didn't pop up suddenly with GM talking but he hint us in steps we should realize... the ship fairy thing i mean..

Like the recent posters, i found it sad that the Merry Going had to "die". With Usopp's fight with Luffy, with just made things just that more sadder.

I wonder though what significance would it have later on. Would Usopp and Luffy be listening for the spirit of their new ship?

hmm zg have u read the latest chapter(430)? cos I get the feeling that you haven't. You keep on talking about the GM suddenly appearing and talking, but since the GM has been able to talk since the skypiea arc and then franky explained it in the water seven arc, I'm guessing your main problem is with it appearing suddenly like that, which is explained in chapter 430.

    what is she? a shaman?

and on top of all that, she has a psychic link with usopp?
what, are we later going to find out that usopp mothers soul is in the ship and that when under great duress she'll go berserk and eat the enemy?

yup, i can see it in chpt 429, once everyone is in the ship, she'll bubble and hearth everyone back to the city. GG

seriously though, i think oda is a great mangaka and one piece really excels but this going merry thing is totally half-assed.
You can really expect the laws of physics and reality to be exactly the same in a fictional world. I would think people would be a little more upset with sky island than a posessed ship.

Whatever ship the SH would get afterwards, I still suspect it would still be somehow related to Going Merry....in what way we have yet to discover.

    Chapter 430 - extremely sad.

If you don't think so you don't have a heart.

430 was touching, but Merry suddenly acting on her own, sailing out to sea, etc. seemed a bit far-fetched, even for One Piece. Would have been much better if Iceburg piloted the ship, instead of Merry piloting itself.

Yes, it wouldn't be as horribly sappy and 'touching', but it would have made it look not as corny.

I guess if I am willing to accept a talking ship (which I am) I am able to accept the same ship traveling by itself through a deadly storm.
