Whats going to become of the Going Merry?

they are not called hammers "they sink" ! They are called hammers because they can't swim, and thus, sink.

now, why can't they swim ??? Oda made it very clear : it is not because "they can't swim, period.", but because a DF user surrounded by water becomes weak, and the more he is submerged the more he weakens. Of course when someone (with DF or not) is too weak, he can't swim, and thus sinks (if his body doesn't prevent him from sinking of course !).
THAT is the rule of DF in water, not "you can't swim" nor "you can't float".... ~


So, depending of what Oda told us about DF properties, we can assume a boat wouldn't sink, for 2 reasons :
- water doesn't affect it a lot because most of a ship surface is not in contact of water ===> the boat wouldn't be weakened too much ;
- even if the boat was too weak, why should it sink ? its shape naturally prevents it from sinking, so it wouldn't.

Why would the be a df user? >_>, No one has fed it one, nor does anyone here know how to give an object a devil fruit.

My opinion is that its just some last minute moments with the going merry before they finally have to part with it. They use it to get away, and when they're safe, the going merry would TRULY this time not be able to set sail. I think this because when the going merry came to save them, it was still in disrepair and not fully new again.

Ya... how the hell do you feed a boat a fruit? Especially when the mouth is just drawn on...

I agree with Adone... but that like... maybe Klaubatterman or whatever possessed the ship and made it demonic or whatever so it could go underwater and stuff. But then, if that were the case, who put the metal plates on its sides and whatnot.

How the hell do you feed a gun a fruit? We don't know, but it's sure as hell possible.

And the german fairy fixed the ship and put the metal plates.

Correct me if I'm wrong but Shinto religion believes everything has a spirit so Oda could have used that as a bases for feeding nonliving objects Devil Fruits by feeding their spirit counterpart.

I think that if Merry ate the devil fruit it wouldnt sink because she\he floats the water just takes away your power and you cant move so Merry could navigate and comunicate without sinking, but we will have to wait for the next chapters and see!

I hope GM dies and stays dead. This last chapter pissed me off, especially when the lame boat started talking.

Now why did GM come back in the first place? well I think there are still many "mysterys" yet to be revieled in the OP world and I think this is going to be one of those times Oda is going to whip one of those "mysterys"out of his ass to explain it. If it was either built by iceberg, transformed by devil fruit, or brought back by will alone I dont think I could accept it.

Remember before Buggy ate his fruit he was one of the best swimmers in the crew but when he fell in the water he couldn't swim at all not even float which requires little effort or power.

u know, i just read this at wikipedia:

"A Klabautermann is a water sprite (or nix) who assists sailors and fishermen on the Baltic Sea in their duties. He is a merry and diligent creature, with an expert understanding of most watercraft, and an unsupressable musical talent. He also rescues sailors washed overboard."

and I also read this from the same article:


"Despite the positive attributes, there is one omen associated with his presence: no member of a ship blessed by his presence shall ever set eyes on him. He only ever becomes visible to the crew of a doomed ship."

from what I've read in the manga and from that article, the Klabautermann and merry are two different things, the Klabautermann lives in Merry, but is not the ship itself, so what's talking to them in 428 was the Klabautermann not Merry, which makes more sense really(as much as anything can make sense in the world of op anwyay). Now the article mentions that a Klabautermann would be seen when the ship is about to die and that the Klabautermann has musical talent.

so MAYBE, just MAYBE their new crew member will be the Klabautermann, I mean luffy is looking for a musician right? the Klabautermann has musical talent and since the Klabautermann =/= Merry, maybe they'll just build a new ship, attach the old sheep head and move the Klabautermann from Merry to the new ship.

Hmm, that does sound plausible. Nice theory, even if it doesn't turn out true. Personally, I don't know what's gonna happen. There's so much speculation, dunno who's right and whatnot. But I do recall Usopp saying it was the Merry talking to them several times. He pretty much called the Klabautermann merry's incarnation.
