one piece can simply be something gold roger said so that pirates will set out on their journey to grandline to try to achieve it. and in the course of doing so, they realise their dreams, and fulfil their dreams. wouldn't this be something all of them will want to achieve rather than get their hands on a treasure that they don't even know about? oda has always stressed that they are out to sail because they want to fulfil their dreams, and it will be the best reward for them rather than getting any tangible treasure. they may realise in the end that one piece simply means their dreams are fulfilled.

no... that's only the case for few pirates like luffy, black beard and some others... just look at when luffy was in the island just before they reached skipea, all the pirates mocked them cause their dreams where silly... the only think the average pirate wants is gold and power, that's it..
and it would be disappointing if the one piece was nothing valuable

    yup.....i agree with you....
it has to be something valuable(not exactly gold) but maybe had to do with sentimental value....
i would say that maybe One Piece is the most unexpected treasure....

If the One Piece is just a scam, that would be the lamest, most cliche'd ending I'd ever seen to such a great manga.

As for the crew, I would think they'd all been executed..as when the judge told Tom-San anyone who was involved with Roger would be punished severely; you'd think that if someone who jus built the ship was executed, they would kill the pirates too!

I think, that most of rogers crew still lives, scattered all over the grandline and wait the return of a new pirate king. Roger has perhaps sacrificed himself, to save his friends and in this way got captured from the gouvernment.

I think True History is closely related to One Piece. One may even need to know True History to unlock the secrets of One Piece or vice versa; thus, thinking that True History is as boring as historical lessons in school (apology to historians ) may be a mistake. Remember that in the quest of True History, Robin found many tablets about ancient weapons capable of destroying the world such as Pluton and Poseidon. Even Gol D. Rogers followed the clues on the tablets which might have lead him to the treasure in the first place. Ancient weapons + True History + One Piece = Ultimate Treasure. They are all linked. If Luffy wants to be a Pirate King, he may need to understand the nature of True History/One Piece/Ancient weapons. Therefore, the greatest treasure is not about gold/money, but it's about knowledge. Something that allow Gol D. Roger to smile before his execution (then again, it could be because he was as dumb as Luffy ). That is my theory, anyway.

That brings up Robin. Robin may even be a more important crew member to Straw Hat pirates than others such as Sanji or Usopp. She is the key to One Piece mistery.

Wow! I never thought of One Piece as treasure like "the true history", gold, katana, and such.
I always thought that One Piece was the name of the ship Gold Roger sailed on.

First of all, all the pirates are going for the treasure because they don't actually know what it is. They are not sure, but they are all dreaming of the treasure to be something they desire, which means One Piece could technically be something boring/useless to some pirates, but yet everyone will still go for it because they don't know what it is yet.
Secondly, perhaps Gol D. Roger has set up the treasure to be something like "You've realised you dream" on a piece of paper or something, because I can't imagine a ruthless and a pirate with no dreams to be able to find One Piece, they would simply lack the will power to survive the trip.
Thirdly, I don't think Gol D. Roger was betrayed, neither do I think ANY of his crew died. Recall the chapter where Luffy almost got his head chop off, he wasn't captured, it was just coincidence. Perhaps Gol D. Roger did something quite stupid and got himself in all that mess. I just can't imagine the World's Greatest Pirate being captured if he actually tried to defend himself. I mean seriously, him and his WHOLE crew getting captured by the garbages in the Marine, what are the chances of that?
