Ch 314: isnt that kinda racist?

I was just reading ch 314...and that part about black people being stronger and the whole afro stereotype thing, isn't that kind of racist? I heard stories about Japanese people being racist, but I didn't know they did it so openly.

When taken as a whole, the asian people are arguably the most racist people in the world. Ethnocentrism runs rampant, and it's not just against whites, blacks and browns. The Chinese, Japanese, Korean, etc. all generally believe that their race is superiour to others. The Japanese exhibited it during WWII when they were dubbed "White Aryans" by Hitler, while Chinese ethnocentrism is referred to as "Middle Kingdom Syndrome"

oh hey I simply took it as another of Ussop's rants... plus, in the Olympics, aren' blacks generally stronger? I'm not sure, but most of the sprinters etc. are blacks right?

Well, I know the author didn't mean it to be an insult (except maybe with the afro) but it just doesn't seem write to publish that stuff. I hought One Piece was supposed to be a comic kids can read.

well it was kinda racist but it was funny at the same time.but what i really want to know is what 4kids is gonna do with the chapter are they gonna edit the fro or are they gonna not even show it! :shock:

Well, it's not rediculously racist. 4kids can just change the dialogue to make it less offensive. They could say that you have to use a costume and that the fro was the best looking one there.

Saying black people as being physically strong is being racist? What? I think you need to redefine racism. It is just one of those things, blacks tend to be more muscular and bigger as compared to Asians, who are smaller. It is just the way things are - nothing racist about saying it.

And the comment some guy posted about Asians being the most racist race, I think is completely wrong. Every race is as racist as the other as in we generally favor our own race and despise some other race. In fact, Asians (some South East Asians that is) love to lick the boots of Westerners - come to the poorer SE Asians country and you will see the local favouring Westerners.

And if the guy who posted the comment come from the West who rampage the Middle East you have no right to accuse anyone else of being racist.

I think you are right. There is nothig wrong. The afo-oufit is fun, and it is rather a tribute to all the great sport legends. I don't think this has to be changed in the anime.
