For now, the idea of DF's containing real devils is more like a rumor in one piece, so we really can't say much about it.

I think Oda likes having the spirit-in-fruit idea anyway. He doesn't want to complicate things.

Wikipedia had an odd statement about Logia user: "Logia-type (自然系 Shizen-kei, read as Rogia-kei) is the last, but certainly not least, class: "Nature". With these fruits, the consumer may actually become a natural element in its entirety. Note that these are not limited to the classical elements: Fire, water, earth and wind, but includes physical states like smoke. Even in their default states, logia users are near invincible, taking no damage from physical attacks. Any blow will pass through the logia user's body automatically, with the targeted area becoming the users element upon contact. The Logia user has to mentally "activate" his power in order to accomplish this, as shown on the episode where Luffy hit Smoker with a Gomu Gomu no Rocket while he was distracted. There can also be a case like Sir Crocodile's, who honed his abilities to the point of turning the activation of the power into a reflex. Ever since their abilities are gained, they are neither completely human nor element in their default state. For example, a blow can pass right through the user, while he maintains the rest of his body, and even can hold onto objects at the same time".

"However, Logia users have the option of turning completely into their element if they so wish. This is often used for crossing great distances quickly, or avoiding blows should their weakness have been discovered. Thus far, the only thing except seastone which allows for physical harm on a logia user are natural weaknesses which, when exploited, negate the Logia power. An example of this is Luffy landing blows on Enel regardless of the Goro Goro fruit's electric powers because of his rubber body".

"Logia users can tap unlimited amounts of their respective elements from their own bodies, and the "extracted" element be manipulated however the user wishes. Logia users cannot control already physically existing forms of their element, but they may manipulate their surroundings into generating it - examples are Aokiji freezing an ocean, and Enel turning a cloud into a thunder cloud".

The thing that struck me odd is that, in the scene where Luffy hit Smoker, Luffy also sent Ace flying. Implying Ace is less trained than Crocodile. At least with this logic. Though I personaly think that scene was meant for comedy and shouldn't be taken too seriously.

Hi.Not new to the forums so forgive my mistakes. One cool fruit would be the "marine" fruit. It enables the user to breathe underwater, swim and so...Much like the shark-men.It would need strategy to lure your opponent ot the water but it's user would make a greate pirate.Do not know if anyone has already told so but...

The sea is not favorable to DF user. As in they lose all their strength and just sink. But at least this fruit's user could breathe as sinks. And then stay at the bottom. And then become the One Piece equivalant of Davy Jones.

Remember: Wikipedia is not a professional infromation source!

The "unlimited amounts of their respective elements" is bs to me.

Although it's obvious that Logia means elemental, the theory of Logia having a "Greater Element" subclass still holds on.

That's, not the main reason I quoted Wikipedia. Many people seem to agree that the defining aspect of a Logia user is to disperse upon an attacks contact. But Wikipedia's enteries question this. Stating what was, in my opinion, a comedy scene. Further stating that a Logia DF has to be trained in order to do that.

On one hand, Crocodile did rant a bit about how a fruit has to be trained in order to be fully utilized. On another hand, Eneru did disperse when he took a spear to the head while asleep.
Then there's Ao-kiji, who didn't so much disperse as entirely break apart.

I don't ever remember Luffy being able to hit Smoker. Does anyone remember a scene like that? In the comics I mean. Fillers in animes aren't canon, so they aren't included. I think dispersion is done subconsciously, like a natural reflex. The training mentioned could pertain to the strength the logia fruit could be used and how it is utilized.

Quoting wikipedia articles isn't the best way to make an argument. In no small part since you may have been the editor. Especially not the articles on one piece, they're horrid. The dispersion does seem to occur automatically, however, except in cases where their weakness is coming into play. It's similar to the Luffy and sharp objects situation.

I wonder though, how far can they be dispersed? For example, could you kill Ace by spreading him across a city block? How about 100 miles? There must be a limit someplace. What if you sliced smoker's arm, causing him to disperse, then trapped the smoke in a glass jar?

As you can see, there are some ways that you should be able to overcome the dispersion. Not the least of which is simply sneaking up on them in their sleep and rolling them into a bathtub.

    Uryuu freaky, pale and geeky,
    how do your powers grow?

yes, swords that I shoot from a bow."
