Question Japanese One Piece Anime - Is it worth watching?

I really like the One Piece manga, I think I'm up to chapter 136 or something like that. I was thinking about getting into the Japanese anime, but I read its nowhere near as good as the manga, apparently it often edits the manga

And I'm talking about the Japanese anime, not the American dub. Have I heard wrong? Is the anime good? How would you compare it to the Naruto anime in terms of quality?

Thanks for the feedback in advance

It's not bad, in my opinion it's just too slow, sometimes 2 chapters from manga equals 1 episode of anime (you can read 2 chapters in 5 minute, and 1 episode is 20 min long). And there are lot of fillers in One Piece anime, not really good one's. But still, I would advise you to download some random chapters so you couldsee by yourself.

yeah its always good to have both.. anime has some few fillers and scenes which the manga dont have but its still good, it dosnt make you wait for at least 50+ episode to catch up with the story like naruto plus they are fun to watch not boring at all!

The anime is actually very faithful to the manga. Most of the episodes, like the anime Monster, are almost exact replications of scenes in the manga.

The only problem with the anime is that, for some of the humorous scenes, the dialogue and whatnot is too slow, as part of the humor in the One Piece manga is the confusing, fast-paced scenes. For example, when you first see Fukurou, Jyubara, and Kumadori, the entire manga scene is hilarious, since they're all blabberin' on at once [and it happens in only a few panels]. In the anime, it takes several minutes for the scene to complete, giving it a "drawn out" feeling.

The anime's faithful to the manga (minus filler episodes of course), but that's not a good thing. Like others have said, the pacing doesn't work as well and the animation does a piss-poor job of trying to match up to Oda's style, IMO.

If you've got an open-mind, watch the dub on Cartoon Network (provided you live in America/Canada). Despite some of the obscene edits (the Hammer-gun...), the dialogue contains a surprising amount of humor.

Yeah, I recommend it too. It's a great show, in Japanese. I haven't seen the dub, but from what I hear, it's terrible. But really the anime is great, it's actually what got me reading the manga. But after reading the manga, I liked it better. Still, the anime is definitely worth watching...check it out.

A few fillers here and there, but overall, the anime is quite similar to the manga. I find that the manga fight scenes sometimes get too confusing to see what's actually going on so the anime is much better for that.

It's actually gotten better as far as voice acting and edits are concerned (Luffy's losing that annoying grating sound in his voice) ever since the series hit the Alabasta arc. And with the series permanent move to Cartoon Network's Toonami, there's a better chance of seeing less edits (and better quality DVD's) a la the Dragonball/DBZ series.

That, and I actually want to give one of my favorite comic creators my financial support. Encouraging more people to watch the dub will ensure that eventually.
