I haven't watched the american dub.
but you defenitely have to watch the jap version...
its getting better (in terms of quality), the early episode is kinda... not good. (old)
you have to watch the jap animation.

Yea you should definatley watch the anime, it does drag a little bit sometime, but the humor is great and fighting is excellent also the voice acting is near perfect for most of the characters, however the fillers (from what I've watch so far) are ok at best but do flesh out the characters and also watching the little mini stories before each chapter animated is also awesome.

definitely watch the anime. Yes slow, but granted how close the japanese anime is to the manga. I mean they are both in the same arc. Filler are not bad, but in my opinion if you want to compare it to the many fillers i seen (i.e. kenshin & naruto). It is damn good. Personally I think the animators should use the manga covers for fillers so that thye can't make more space between the manga and the anime. Thus created less dragged episode. But IMHO should watch it.

I definitely agree with this dude. The humor is the best especially during the Skypiea Arc andthere is no doubt that the fighting is great. Its all good stuff but i dont thinki ive seen any fillers except in ithe american one

Yea, I guess thts good. The anime doesn't run into fillers as much as the others, and I guess its nice
although its kinda a bit slow when it caught up, and doesn't effect much even if you skip an episode but
    watch the beginning atleast.
Clicky the jelly if you can read Japanese

Japanese version of OP is far superior and so enjoyable. You should get down to watching the Movies as well, there's like 6 of them currently, and 7th is being fansubbed i hope (released in 4th of march in japan). I've seen the preview of movie 7 it looks sooooo coooooool on the Mecha island :P

But i hated the Skypiea arc because of the horrible fansubbing by some chinese dudes ... they dont know a shyt about grammar and they try fansubbing .... lol

Can't wait till K-F finishes the arc.

Sure if no one watches it they wont renew the license, but i dont watch it because i think it sucks, its painful to see such a great series be censored and edited. I dont watch it out of protest because if they want to license an anime they should keep it in its original form and then dub it. Look at cowboy bebop, evangelion, they were dubbed right, and left mostly uncensored but because there's violence in them they dont appeal to all the children that cartoon network want to, and as such they edited the crap out of one piece. I mean they skipped an entire arc (little garden, and apis arc iirc which i wouldnt be too fussed about) but little garden was quite an important arc and with skipping it they had a lot of plot holes and quite frankly if they continue to do this then it's going to get alot lot worse. so why bother watching something thats doomed.
If oda was to release dvd's of one piece in it's japanese form with subtitles i'd be happy to buy them. but as far as the american one goes, i'll steer clear of that.
The current dub wasn't made for Cartoon Network, it was for Fox's Saturday morning programming. That's why a lot of edits were made. The FCC won't allow certain acts to be shown during a time when young children are watching. It's the exact same thing that happened to DBZ when it first aired (at 6/6:30am, along with Sailor Moon). Also, the examples you used first aired on a cable network, late at night. Not the same thing.

4Kids still owns the licence, but if there's a renewed interest in the series on a cable station which broadcasts One Piece after 10pm, they won't have to cut many scenes when or if they choose to buy more episodes.

Not knockin' your protest or anything. I just don't like it when fans screw over other fans just because they desire a standard that's all but impossible, like having unedited subbed episodes on American network television. Even the Independant Film Channel shows Samurai 7 dubbed. Subbing's almost a death knell when it comes to American audiences.
