Wow. I never would have believed there was anything Kishimoto could have done at this stage to make this series interesting to me again- but that's because I never would have guessed that he'd ever bring back Orochimaru (STILL the only antagonist in this series I've ever truly respected). After he killed him off -twice!- in such a pussy manner (first beaten crapless by Sasuke, then sealed away "permanently" by Itachi) I'd assumed that Kisihimoto had simply shoved him out of the way to make room for Akatsuki while making the Uchiha brothers looks that much more awesome. Maybe I underestimated him.
Then again, there's something weird about this Orochimaru. Apart from the fact that he's quite simply being DRAWN differently (it's hard to put my finger on it, but I think it's the lines around his eyes and the shape of his nose) he just doesn't quite FEEL like Orochimaru. You could write it off as him being too obviously wary of Sasuke, but he's not acting like he used to- the smug, menacing feeling that it's only his whim preventing him from killing you that made him so chilling earlier is missing and his declaration that he simply doesn't CARE about the Shinobi World War just feels incredibly wrong somehow. It's like he's not half the monster he was before, almost a 'lighter and softer' version. Still, I really can't wait to see what Kishimoto has planned for him- I still don't give a flying proverbial about SASUKE, but I want to hope that Orochimaru still has more to contribute to this series than some exposition about how awesome the Uchiha are.
And it was funny to see how terrified Suigetsu was of Orochimaru.
