Someone remind me, why did Itachi insist on taking Sasuke's eyes when Sasuke never activated the Mangekyou? What was the reason he gave?

And also, Itachi seemed surprised when Naruto told him that Tobi knew about Itachi's story, he even went "He knew that much?!" (or something similar). So that he means Itachi didn't expect him to know that he killed the Uchiha clan on a secret mission, right? Then doesn't that mean that Tobi never helped him kill them? So did Itachi kill them by himself or not?

1) As far as I know, it doesn´t matter if the eyes you get had achieved the MS before, or not! Only the Sharingan needs to have been activated!

2) Don´t know, can´t remember that so good anymore! But he probably wondered how did he know so much about his cooperation with the village leaders ( Tobi talked about that as well, didn´t he?).
But as I said, don´t know the details anymore, so don´t take my word on this!

from what i understood, he never had any intention of getting sasuke's eyes and simply pretended to. he wanted to push sasuke to the brink and force orochimaru's chakra out of him. he wanted sasuke to be the one to defeat him and then awaken his magenkyo and for sasuke to implant his eyes.

I just thought about it.
Madara achieved his evolution and his EMS evolved to Rinnegan probably due to Hashirama's power.
Sasuke is still near the generator of Zetsusn Hashirama's clone and Yamato... Oh no wait !!!

He never intended for Sasuke to take his eyes. Just to awaken MS.
Since Sasuke would have never known about the EMS.
He prepared the crow in case Sasuke did take his eyes.

Now that I think of it, why in the hell would the Kyuubi prefer Naruto's cage over Madara? Sure he gets put into a genjutsu sometimes, but who's to say Madara doesn't let him do as he pleases whenever he's not under his control? Besides, the Kyuubi saying "Go, Naruto!" in the the hopes that he'll defeat Madara is NOT something he would say, he would only say that if he's leading Naruto into a trap. And like he actually believes Naruto can beat Madara?

Also, Madara said that he got the Rinnegan just before he died, and that was after his battle with Hashirama. So what killed him? What could possibly kill him? It sounds to me that his death is very recent if he was old enough to even meet Nagato and possibly give him the Rinnegan for some odd reason.
