^ i think this is plausible
Either that or he see the "form" of the chakra ( people have chakra in their body, and he can tell whose chakra it is - remember how he found out that kakashi was dead during the pain attack)- and can view more or less the situation of everyone (hence the "blurry" vision)
I don't know maybe I am thinking to simple but maybe he just sensed the chakra and pieced it together. He sensed chakra from people he has encountered so he could obviously put a face to it. I am not understanding why everyone is talking bad about Naruto going SM and nine tails, he was just faced with no less than 5/6 jounin. Battle it out with them and possibly be overcome or just finish this quickly by going into either mode. I was a little disappointed with him at first until he saw through there lies.

so.. naruto went into the battle... wanna guess who will be his first opponent?
His first opponent is always Kishimoto. It's a fight he never seems to win.
Real Americans don’t need healthcare! They just cure cancer by pulling themselves up by their bootstraps!
The other Jinchuuriki's haven't joined yet.
Why is Naruto not sending billions of KageBunshins to help people from one side and stay safe and sound?
Ok, it would be pretty cheap and totally out of character.
Now it's EPIC TIME !
PS : nobody noticed or mentioned that Naruto turned into SM in a blink of an eye!
Naruto had sage chakra in reserve. Remember that only two rasen shurikans drain his chakra. It's safe to say he still had plenty left since he didn't really use any jutsus.
I think the visions became "available" because Naruto finally succeeded getting out of the "chakra sealing cave". His chakra sensing leapt forward with his kyuubi training!
Bledge is talkin less of the time it takes for him to remain in SM and more about his activation speed, virtually in the blink of an eye, without having to "meditate". It used to take at least wat 5-10? seconds of staying still meditation for him to transform but apparently he's been training himself to get it done faster, and maybe even hold it longer.
And after rereading the chapter for the 2nd time it seems more clear that Naruto's "vision" came less from his connection with the shadow bind in tandem to his SM and more off a surge of life force/chakra from the surroundings. What Ickam said made sense. The waterfall cave is meant to make chakra sensing imposible so with naruto being out in the open, after all that time in the darkness, the erratic surge of chakra was overwhelming for him. http://mangastream.com/read/naruto/51619850/7 Just re-read that page and the one after it and it makes more sense that way. Notice how the most prominent individuals are those who he's more familar with and the figures he sees more clearly. Everyone is still basically a blur though.
