Let me put this idea out there. Bear with me here. Everyone talks about how the four element seal is really fancy and is very high quality. There's most likely a reason that not every country used it to seal their bijuu. Maybe it's a big secret but I don't think this is the case.

Rather I think that for the four element seal to work it takes sacrifices. In this case with the Fourth sealed the Kyuubi he needed a sacrifice. We know he sacrificed himself.

BUT here's where this Kushina theory could actually come into place. I'm not saying at all that she was the previous jinchuuriki.

I DO however think that she was a necessary sacrifice for the seal to work. The fourth must've used her body as a sacrifice while Naruto was STILL INSIDE her and that's why it's so high quality. She died and was sealed inside Naruto's mind with the fox.

What do you guys think? 100 dollars says that's exactly why she showed up.

maybe she become part of the seal herself (kind of like whoever-dead body-on karasumori castle on kekkaishi).
in kekkaishi the person, whoever he/she is, physically stay inside the seal with the one he/she seal, an immortal-overpowered-child, even till he/she become a corpse. as in he/she closed the seal from the inside

if kushina existence is also like that, then i can understand why the kyuubi chakra sometimes heal naruto and sometimes wound him. y'see the one that heal naruto is not kyuubi, but mommy.. the one that wound him is definitely kyuubi
ps: this is very weird.. i know. for a person to physically live inside you. but remember this is narutoverse we're talking about

there's no sacrifice of kushina.. she is not dead.. nobody ever talk about her death (right??), yet nobody ever talk about her alive (as if she just vanished).. she is living inside that seal with the kyuubi, closing the seal from the inside

When I say sacrifice I don't necessarily mean that she died for the seal. I mean she sacrificed her life (which is technically true) to become the bonds of the seal and keep the kyuubi in check.

So maybe her soul isn't gone but her body definitely is which means she was a sacrifice.

By the way this should pretty much prove that she's gone and not in the real world. Naruto has never seen her before for her to be part of his mind of the kyuubi's. Therefore that is likely her.

PLEASE read my post above because I'm almost positive that that is actually what's going on.

someone above hit the nail on the head: naruto has raw power in spades ...his massive chakra, sage mode strength, kyuubi, ...all mostly raw power attributes ....even if he inherited the "body" of the first sage/ninja as madara put it ...he is gonna need some damn refined techniques like seals and manipulation of wind/elements or else he's like a big wrestler whose very strong but not enough advanced moves

Thank god ST is up again... I thought I was going to have to build up posts in jcafe. I promise not to be too much of ghost again as long ST is up! lol

Anyway... I wanna know what you guys think on how Naruto's seal actually works and why all these people keep popping up in his inside world.

Indeed, your answer and Ivanonv's about the question of the seal and Kushina's fate are very understandable, "argued" in the sense the assumptions are fairly plausible and interesting.
I guess I pretty much like both your theories.
We'll have more clues next week ^^

Naruto was definitely born before the seal. I remember in one chapter kuina was holding him.

It could be used as a plot twist if Madara was the one who killed Kushina by extracting the Kyûbi from her. Yondaime might have felt responsibility for not having protected her and decided to sacrifice himself to make Naruto the new Jinchûriki. The idea of Naruto being born by the previous host could explain some natural affinity he has to withstanding its enormous chakra.

Its just that the time frame and previous plot don't fit. First of all no one seems to know where the Kyuubi came from when it attacked the village (Jiraiya even thought someone had summoned it there) I think if Kushina was the Jinchuriki no one would have "speculated" where the kyuubi came from. In addition it was mentioned that Kushina was actually a ninja from the Hidden Rain village...
