Gaara:
One-tail
The Hidden Sand Village

Gaara's concept is a tanuki. I thought that it would make a good rival for Naruto's fox. (化かし合い is confusing, but the previous sentence gets the gist of it) I liked the concave chin and jagged teeth on the One-tail's mouth.

Nii Yugito:
Two-tails
The Hidden Cloud Village

I got the image of the Two-tails from the idea that having a two-tailed cat elongates your lifespan. Yugito was a high-ranking female shinobi that even Killer Bee looked up to.

Yagura:
Three-tails
The Hidden Mist Village

Because I had previously shown mainly jinchuuriki like Naruto and Gaara, I decided to show a huge bijuu instead. The image is that of a turtle.

Roushi:
Four-tails
The Hidden Rock Village

The concept for this bijuu was a gorilla... and also Son Goku's monkey from Dragonball. While the horns wrapping around the forehead are supposed to be like the Chinese Son Goku's halo(?). I just combined all of that together. It shoots lava from its mouth.

Han:
Five-tails

I just had this idea to combine a dolphin with a horse, I don't really understand it myself. Han wears steam-powered armor and is a ninja that uses steam. He's a steam jinchuuriki.

Utakata:
Six-tails
The Hidden Mist Village

The Six-tails has a wet and drippy feel to it, but it doesn't shoot out lightning. (lol)<-these are Kishimoto's lols, not mine. Utakata uses soap ball (bubbles!) ninjutsu and looks like he'd fit in at a wake.

Fuu:
Seven-tails
The Hidden Waterfall Village

The concept of the Seven-tails was that of a bug. It has the feel of an armored bug. It's tails are wings! The jinchuuriki is a girl... for right now. I hadn't really decided on it. (lol)

Killer Bee:
Eight-tails
The Hidden Cloud Village

The Eight-tails is a combination of an octopus and a bull. I'm pleased with how deliciously the tentacles turned out. Killer Bee rhymes and steps to the beat. He's freakin' strong.

Uzumaki Naruto:
Nine-tails
The Hidden Leaf Village

The concept is a fox. It's the strongest of the bijuu, in fact, it's so strong that I, the author, have to wonder about the best way to show it off each time. (lol)

"Upside down Itachi"

In regards to how I drew the background and characters, I used three layers to create the image. (i.e.- he drew three different images and then put them together) I wanted it to express how their lives took paths that put them at odds with each other. The same scene was printed in the serialization.

Fuujin vs Raijin

This is the confrontation between Fuujin and Raijin. I wanted to give it a unique feel, as much as I could, so other than the characters, I used a writing brush to draw everything. The people from ancient times were amazing to have drawn like this.

What is the 6-tailed demon? It looks like a slug, but since Tsunade has the slug summons I don't think its that. Anyone have a clue. At this point I'm just going with a snail.

@metrobluejay: i'm not sure if it's a snail or a slug. it got arms and legs.... some sort of water lizard i guess... but i'm not very sure either. salamander.. but with that type of eye it look more like a slug....

BTW i always wonder but never ask. why do westerner call it 'demon'? for us easterner we got a hole different word for that kind of stuff. and it doesn't give a negative meaning..

well it depend on the country i guess. but if i try to translate it to english, it'll become something like:
'djinn', or 'spirit' (spirit wolf, spirit tiger (must respect this one), the mountain spirit...), or 'were-something' (like werewolf,werecat,....), or 'magical beast' or god (not THE GOD but... hard to explain) something like that.. or something like embodiment of.... manifestation of...

not all of them are evil. some are neutral (want to be left alone), while other very helpfull.
but if we use the word 'demon' it kind of make all of them evil. would it not??

Most of the designs look bizarre. It looks like Kishi just decided to mix and match animals at random rather than using actual mythological creatures. I just wish he'd shown ALL the jinchuuriki, not just the latest ones. I'm sure most of the Bijuu have been sealed more than once.

Hmm, considering we never saw Akatsuki capture the Five, Six and Seven Tails this is a gold mine of filler material for the anime.
