You can't look at an option in the past and wonder what would have happened if it had happened differently because it is impossible to change a choice that had already been made. There is no alternate path that could have been taken, because no matter what Sasuke was going to get bitten.

Kishimoto decided it would work out this way, if it wasn't a curse seal set by Oro it would have happened in a similar fashion. That's just how he wanted the story to develop. It is possible that Kishi was considering taking the story in another direction at the time but he's the only one who could tell you, considering the static between Naruto and Sasuke i doubt he was thinking of any other course.

What's it to you how anyone wastes their time? If you're gonna be a prick about it then gtfo.

Anyways, a guy like Sasuke would've left eventually. You can say his bond with Team 7 would've just grown in that time, but like he's said before (or was it my imagination?) the fact that that bond is so strong is what makes it worth breaking.
