I like topics like this, I'm surprised there wasn't one already about their interpretation on kishimotos direction, etc.
One thing I want to mention is that it's clear that from the beginning Kishimoto was using Dragonball as a guide/template for this series. Apart from him admitting that he was a big fan of Toriyama in the preface to one of the issues, I keep seeing more and more similarities. Even the passage of time before Shippuden is a mimic of the time between Dragonball and Dragonball Z.
But, I think he goes beyond what toriyama did in order to keep the series fresh, which is why I much prefer it. I really like the way he manages to make all the secondary characters so unique and interesting, which is something that Toriyama didn't do. I wish he'd expand more on those characters, and not make some of them so useless/expendable.
