Thread: Naruto Live Action

Hi guys, my first post up in here. Be kind.

I am looking at the posters of the Dragonball movie and I just know that it's going to suck. Weak ass Goku etc...

However, it is very likely that we could see a Naruto movie attempt at some point because of all the fans, money etc..

So, what kind of movie would you want Naruto to be?

I would appreciate a Lord of the Rings type affair, which would mean 3 full length movies, that can cover most of the epic tale which is Naruto. That type of style will also capture the dark mood needed for some scenes in Naruto.

Alternitavely, I think Naruto could be great if it was a TV series in kind of the same way as Heroes. Only it would be much better than Heroes.

Anyway, that's what I'm thinking at the moment 'cause I have'nt eaten yet.

im bored so i will actually try to answer this with substance.

it really depends on what type of live action they aim to make. the only live action i have seen is initial D, which if i recall correctly, it was the 1st season just cut down to be a movie over a summer break or something.

for nartuo they may try to have a live action movie of a particular arc or as a filler. personally, i think anime such as DBZ or naruto will seem sum-what of a rip off because of the fact they have unual characters, such as for DBZ i cant imagine what picolo will look like and the summons in naruto such as the toads, frogs and snakes may be hard to pull off.

so really if they make one i think it shouldnt come off as takcy or anything, though this is coming from someone who hasnt seen a live action movie outside of things that are logical aka car racing

You know, this could actually work. They could use special effects similar to the latest Harry Potter movie for all the elemental jutsus and stuff. And it'd work well even if Hollywood Westernised the cast(Yeah, the characters have Japanese names, but how many blond-haired, blue-eyed Japs have you ever seen?).

It wouldn't work no matter how much you think it would, Naruto has more of a complex story then DB. It would be just the same like how people loved the idea of a DB movie before they actual heard the plot and saw the images, doing a Westernised version would be the wrong idea this is were it would fail just like DB. It would need to be true to the manga much more.

i would hate a hollywood version, though that is just my opinion because i am a passionate endorsor for things being true to the original content.

i mean the anime movies i have seen that have the english dubs are terrible as the voices can be too much. i have princess mononoke on DVD and billy bob thorton voiced a character and i couldnt stand it so much that i only watch the japanese version with english subtitles. the thing about japanese films is that i dont know the voice actors so they dont take anything away from the character and i feel the same if it was a live action, just the fact it is naruto makes me think a japanese film adaption would be more appropriate.

this bit is more about asian cinema than anime or live action: films such as 'a tale of two sisters' (korean) which is a psychological thriller was adapted into a western film which was called 'the uninvited' (due to be released in 2009) even though the uninvited is the name of another korean psychological thriller involving two sisters but having completely different plots. this takes the value of the original film away. the ratings change from MA (in australia, R in the USA) to PG -13. so to be honest i do not like the idea of asian cinema being westernised. but all in all that would depend if the original adaption was an eastern or western version, for example live action Initial D was japanese so i wouldnt like it being re-made into a western film but it might be a different case if a live action film about naruto was a western version first


and the problem with harry potter is that the plot does have these things intertwined into every book, but the movies are so dependant on timing that they cut a lot of detail out. my sister who hasnt read the books follows them easy cause the plot is simplified, though i cant enjoy the movies a lot because i keep thinking about what is missing

sounds to me like someone hasnt been introduced to the music industry of japan :P

Yeah, but you know, many manga have character and settings that are heavily influenced by the West, even if the have Japanese names. Like FMA and Cowboy Bebop for example. And to a certain extent, Naruto.(Even ignoring the recent influx of black guys, most of the characters look far from Asian. Sai, Asuma, Sarutobi and a few others are the only ones whose faces really look Japanese).

You must be hard to please. I've heard that the Princess Monooke dub had a cast of high calibre actors including Patrick Stewart. And I personally believe
that for some anime like FMA and Bebop(which were Western to begin with) the dub was better than the original.

^ some animes could be translated better than others into live action. And some translate better into westernization. Though Naruto live action made by hollywood.....like the DBZ movie I would probably ignore it. this accurately expresses what i feel. and the artist is awesome on top of that.

OMFG!! all of you who would even CONSIDER the though deserves a back hand. Anime needs to stay animated. My god pple. The naruto animated "movies" are bad enough as is the last thing we need is some lil annoying brat saying "BELIEVE IT!!" Thats his trademark in the western world so best believe he's gonna say it in his live action movie!!

o and on a side note has anybody else seen a movie called "Death Trance"? thats exactly how an anime life action movie would be. fight wise.

No, just... no. I'm already ticked off that DBZ became a western movie, and Naruto live action would indeed suck. Animes are animated for a reason, because they can do anything and isn't bound by the rules of physics and bad costumes.

Well, Dragonball is a bad example. Of course that's going to suck. Just look at the characters, they are just hard to transport into live action. The figure of the fighters with all those muscles (even kid gohan) and more importantly the face and hair. No human can have hair like Goku and eyes and eyebrows like him.
Therefore every attempt looks stupid.
Naruto is a bit different. It's easier to do in live action.

But I'd never let the americans do it. Let asia handle it, if it has to be done. They can do good films and special effects too and they have a better connection to namies/mangas.

But I'd propose another thing instead of a live action film. Make it like the Final Fantasy childrens advent. Both Dragonball and Naruto would look awesome animated in that quality.


PS: I wouldn't be so sure that they wouldn't westernize the whole thing. Just look at the plans for the Evangelion live action movie (if that will ever be made). Not even the japanese names of the characters remain.
