I don't know if I'm reading too much in it, but like the poke which was a symbolic moment, I'm wondering if the snake escaping is as well. The forehead touch was telling us that even after Sasuke has upgraded his strength and fighting ability, he is still weaker than Itachi. Kinda brings Sasuke's character down to earth after people were saying he was too strong after the first half of this battle.

the snake thing, I'm wondering that it may be more metaphoric than literal. Thinking it could be symbolizing Sasuke instead of Orochimaru as well. And that it means that sasuke has escaped this fight alive even though he was the one who lost. But the thing that gets me is if it answers Madara's question of whether Sasuke would shed his serpent scales or not. If it is, then its a sign of whats to come in the year of the Sasuke.

    Well, I guess this wasn't Itachi's year.

Wow, I honestly thought it was a superb end to a crappy chain. Had the fight been truly 'epic', I think this would easily stack as the perfect ending next to the Sarutobi vs Oro fight [Dying while seeing my foe as my young student]. I'm not sure what to think, but if it was as Terasiel said, then Itachi's goal was never Sasuke's eyes. I agree that it was the final way by which to tier Sasuke up for the final battle, so to speak.

I'm still trying to make a connection between Itachi's behaviour when he met Naruto and his grin just before poking Sasuke. Its eating me alive that his intentions -still- remain in the dark.

Does anyone else think Sasuke might get the mangekyo now that he's killed his brother? I'm starting to think that Itachi's plan was to engineer a way Sasuke could get the magekyo without disturbing his conscience by making himself the bad guy.

The poke was more like he give up on the Sasuke's eyes
since he know he shouldn't live that long anymore and also a way to redeem himself in
    front of Sasuke.
