Although I do not post too much in this section, but I do lurk here quite often, so let me add my two cents.

I actually like Urameshi's Idea better. If we were to make a FAQ in limits of Q&A thread it would be placed in the first page (where else?) right beneath the Search tutorial. Which means a)Only few n00bs will have patience to read it that far and b) members who know how to search won't even see it. So it will lose its' purpose. And just making Q&A thread into one huge FAQ is't an option either, since it is too time consuming to read the whole thread.

So my point is that moderators along with senior members of this subforum (you all know which senior members I am talking about) can make a temprorary thread where the'll make a "universal" answers to those frequently asked questions and explanations about things like those 3 coffinns that Urameshi-mantioned. Then all the finished answers will be put in one post in the new permanent thread which later will be stikied and locked so no noob posts there.

    Seconded (thirded?)

You don't need to use the forum search function, only your browser search..
As all the asnwers would be on the first page.

^ And how many n00bs would know about it? Its them who this thread will be done for (so that they won't annoy anyone with dumb questions) so it must be so obvious that any blind idiot would see it. I doubt that putting it one the first page of QnA will be noticeable enough.

Well, it's amazing what people won't read. Even when it's right in front of them.

That's why I've aimed to keep the number of stickies fairly low, in the hopes that it would make them more eye-catching to new members.

So...ideas with more than one person rooting for them include:

    • General theory thread.

I've had this one suggested before. I went on a hunt for my response last time...I'll summarize it. Here are the main points:

    • There is the occasional theory thread where the poster is quite persistant - do we really want a ten page plus discussion on one person's theory buried in the middle of one big thread?
    • I think forcing people to make a thread for their theory makes them put more thought into it. And if they don't, it can be locked easily enough.
    • I think a prolonged multiple-theory discussion would be a breeding ground for random members to come in and make a single post like "lol, I thnk the AL iz the 4th!" and just generally make pests of themselves.
    • I'm worried it would get repetitive.

Ideally, the kind of theories people should be posting are the ones that are deserving of individual discussion.

If anyone really wants to try it (or can address my points, such as they are), I'm happy to set up a poll and give this a test run.

    • FAQ thread

Okay, this sounds good. I don't want to add another sticky though, so how about something like...appending it to the Announcement? Or adding a second one? Maybe that's overkill...

    • kaom and Tet should post more.

Edit - Wait, I had more input...I want people to stop lurking so much. Come post more. =(

I also agree on your points with the theories thread.

while the faq I think its a good one, and shouldn't be necessary a new thread, granted that you have the risk of someone not knowing how to use CTRL+F on their browser..

That I serious doubt someone wouldn't know, its not being a newbie/noob but plain ignorant about computers,
*PS> I don't know the MAC equivalent of search.. Mac button+F?

But nothing that can't be amended on the current seach tutorial to teach how to search within the thread.

@ Kaom: I agree about Genreal theory thread, if it'll turn out into "Tobi=Obito=AL=LOLZ" thread then it's hardly needed.

As for FAQ thread.... Of course it can be simply put together with QnA or a link to it can be added to Announcement if adding one more stiky is complitely unnacceptable, but I'm afraid that complete morons will manage to miss it in this case. This option still remains though. If you want to have less stickies then there are threads that can be removed from there.

Temporarily sticking this so it gets more attention. At least vote, please!

And if anyone has more suggestions for how to implement the FAQ thread (since right now it looks like we're going to try this), please post away. I'd like to make a decision and implement it by the end of the month. :3

^Here's a suggestion that is semi-efficient. In the 1st post of the FAQ thread, state the purpose of the thread and then make a list of links leading to posts that come later in the thread addressing the various issues/questions/misconceptions. I think ripping posts from old threads might be a good way to fully answer the issues, but it might just be easier just to make new posts to write up the arguments (your call).

But before we do that, we'll need to make the list of issues that need to be addressed (maybe you want to make a thread just to get input on this?). These are the issues I can think of now (will add more later if I can think of them):
    1) The three coffins.
    ...
    ...
    ...

I'm sorry. Drawing a blank right now. Will come back later.

There is a picture of the databooks with ages.. that isn't really a issue.

    what is needed is
*) Itachi's age and akatsuki thingy.
    *) Naruto's seals
    *) Sai and Suigetsu relation
    *) Orochimaru's status
    *) Sasuke's hacks
    *) Naruto's hacks
    *) Tengu theory
    *) Naruto's name
    *) Tobi = Madara <> Obito
    *) Pain's pets <> deidara and such
    *) Pain's identity theory

Thats all I can think off
