5 iirc, one followed him in the toad dimension and died. Anyway, I'm pretty sure he could escape with all those frog teleportation tricks, which makes it even weirder.

So anyone think that Pein going to use Jiraiya body now? He could take over it like he did the other bodies. He already down a body from the fight, he just need to reattach the arm and he got a new one to use. It would be interesting if Naruto came to avenge Jiraiya and Pein summon Jiraiya for Naruto to fight.

Killing off an important character in a matter of some 10 chapters, not even making it emo and sobby...?? And remember how he killed Zabuza (not so important as he was)? Soooo touching and sooo sad...
So, since he didn't make it sad this time, there are four possibilities (I see 4):
1. Jiraiya isn't dead (that would be lame, 'cause ressurecting a character is just... lame)
2. There will be a few chapters containing Jiraiyas funeral, mourning shinobi, and sweet flash-backs, so that we can cry our eyes out all we want (that wouldn't be lame, but still it is hard to accomplish, I mean, how are they supposed to get his body back... ?)
3. Jiraiya is dead but his body will be used by Pain (that's a certain way to get Naruto pissed off, so it's a possibility even if the thought itself is quite revolting... Controlled Jiraiya... yuck...)
4. Kishimoto is tired of making Naruto, so he is starting a charcide, to get rid of them one by one... and then finish Naruto with a spectacular battle... and probably showing us "20 years later" instead of showing how Naruto becomes Hokage in real time... AND Kishimoto doesn't care how to kill characters anymore, 'cause he is eager to finish this manga >____< (most likely, but even if it is so, we will never find out -_-; )
Next victim candidates - Kakashi and Tsunade -_-

How is it not touching, just because it was an ispiring death instead of a pointless death like Zabuza's. It just goes to show you, you can't please everybody.

You know, a death (or a battle/fight for that matter) doesn't have to be 100 chapters for it too be epic or important. Or for showing a major characters death. I'm actually happy the fight was like this, as it wasn't so damn dragged out that you found half of it too be boring.
It showed what needed to be showed, and still kept tons of things about that nice lil' enemy a secret.
As for killing of a character quickly just like that. I find it awesome that Kishimoto might have the balls too have done just that. One can't spend tons of time on everything, and people are still sad that Jiraiya seems too have been ended without it having to have been super sobby or emo.
If you need that for an important character too die go read Bleach where no characters at all die.
Seriously, just because a fight might not be fully showed and a death might seem damn sudden without it being all sad and heartfilled before doesn't make it sad, or that it didn't really happen. A sudden, quick, death fight is in my opinion more breath taking than a 10-20 chapter long filler filled with small flashback glimps and monologes. As in the long battle you can tell if someone will die, and half by half who the winner will be after half. While the short battle will take you by surprise in alot more cases. No matter if the "good" or the "bad" guy wins.
