Thread: Censorship.

American dubs/translations are so censored that's even funny!

ya i remember first getting into anime w/ yu yu hakasho.. and the english verison of that was pretty weak after i watched the japanese verisons of it.. like Chu (drunken fighter) was just portrayed as a weirdo and the knife edge death match didn't show any blood.. lol i remember watching it the first time in japanese with my friends and we were like "AHHH!!! his foot is going into the blade".. lol we were just freaking out.. also there was a time i was watching an english episode on dvr and yusake was fighting the dude/chick in english and i somehow figured out before i saw the japanese verison that he grabs "her" breasts.. but didn't know they got super inparticular because he feels the dudes sack underneith as well.. as for naruto in english i pretty much watched the first 2 episodes then was like "no thanks".. it got annoying hearing village hidden in the leaf.. but i was definately wondering what they were gonna do for the lee drunken fight.. sorry about the tangent on yuyu.. lol i know its a naruto forum but meh lol have more examples w/ that then anything else lol

Yu yu hakusho was on adult swim and it wasnt censored, i own the dvds in english and theres all the blood and chu being a drunk...back on topic...

I've been watching the Naruto dubs here and they don't seem that bad to me. Their up to the 'finding tsunade' arc and i don't notice anything being chaned too much. The amount of blood/shurikens going into people seems to be the same, Jiraya still goes to bars to pick up chicks, tsunade and Jiraya still drink a whole lot of sake together...maybe im missing something?

^they don't drink sake. they drink private potions, god dammit!

Ya but they then started to show it on tsunami... during the day after school.. and they censored it.. and ya i forgot when they first started showing it, it wasn't censored.. but i didn't get totally into it until it was on tsunami.. for some reason :\

That's why you don't watch anime on TV. You buy uncut DVDs so you can switch between uncut Japanese and uncut English dub whenever you want to. In case anyone here thinks otherwise the Naruto DVDs are fully uncut exactly like the Japanese version you've all seen and you can even watch them in Japanese /w subs like you want to. Obviously, as this thread is concerned with, there are some issues with the manga but I don't own it so I don't know.

Honestly, there are plenty of series I can't stand watching in English, and there are plenty of series I wouldn't ever think of watching in Japanese, and there are some series where I can switch back and forth (maybe even mid-episode) and not care.
