in the recent chapters, jiraiya stated that pain could control all types of chakra, something that no one else could do.
so that raises the question about the sharingan. yes, the sharingan can copy the seals and other things and allow the person to do the jutsu if their body could handle it, so would it be safe to say that if a person with the sharingan does not the affinity for a certain type of chakra, they could not do the jutsu?
like kakashi for example, he's the person in the anime who has shown that no matter what village you are from - you can use their techniques - it is not exclusive unless it's a bloodlimit/given to you by some other type of aid.
he has done fire, earth, water and lightning jutsus, but he has never done a wind jutsu. so would that mean that kakashi cannot do a wind type jutsu, even if he knows the seals?
Nope, he's never done fire either, mostly water or earth, except for raikiri, which is lightening.

The sharingan can copy every normal ninjutsu.
But to convert the chakra of the sharingan user to a special element, he has to have this affinity.
A ninjutsu is something else (more simple) than a chakra converting jutsu like the fuuton rasengan or the chidori.
thanks for clearing that up.
(btw - kakashi has done a fire type jutsu. he can do grand fire no jutsu - he did it most recently in early shippuden episodes)
now i'm wonder...
could sasuke beat itachi using lightning element jutsus (theoretically if itachi cannot use lightning style jutsus)
Considering all that Itachi has accomplished I'm pretty sure that he can counter Sasuke's lightning jutsu with either equal strength lighting or beat them with wind jutsu. We've never seen him use an element other than fire (that I know of) but when it comes to one of the most skilled ninja in the manga it's safe to assume that there's not a whole lot of jutsu that he can't counter. If anyone's going to pull off some weird godlike jutsu it's going to be Itachi.
The thing about Kakashi using the fire ball jutsu in the anime confused me since I don't remember it from the manga and I refuse to read through all those previous issues to confirm if Kakashi using fire is cannon or not.
it's non-cannon. he only used it in the anime. but yea, it doesnt really matter if itachi can't use lighning type jutsu, all he needs is its counter
Itachi can use water jutsu...
ahh, first post!! I think that the element and the technique are different. For example, all of us could draw a picasso, by tracing perhaps.. or with some traininng, you could imitate anything.. but you dont have the element ,
I think kakashi would have a certain percentage of power over the affinity. If he has affinity to water, then the imitation would be 100%.. but on polar opposites like fire, perhaps the effectiveness would be 20%... he could never do itachi's fire jutsus.. ttz for sure..
I don't know when he was supposed to have used fire, but I'm pretty sure it was never in the manga, and we all know how much we can count on anime only scenes.
^ i agree, Kakashi never used katon in the manga, the anime was stupid filler bell test episode and he used a katon ..
in the first Naruto movie they even had him copy an ice jutsu, which eventually turned out to be a bloodline limit..
