... If he was the first Uchiha and the first sharingan user (?) shouldnt his name be Hyuuga Madara, as it was explicitly stated that the Sharingan is just a mutation of the Byakugan? And as far as we know all Byakugan users were in the Hyuuga clan exclusively.

Only the main branch is "pure" after all, and even they haven't been explicitly stated to practice incest.

It also may be some sort of mixture, can it not? A member from the Hyuuga family had an offspring with a member from another clan (with Kekkei Genkai), and so the Sharingan was created. It may also be as adonai said, the Bouke is not supposed to be "pure;" so, since the blood became mongrelised, the Byakugan eventually mutated into the Sharingan.

Now that I think about it, I think there may be something a bit funny. The Hyuuga family is one of the main families in Konoha, which makes me think that it has been there since its foundation; yet, Uchiha Madara was supposed to be alive by the times of the Shodaime (we know they even fought). So, if the Sharingan is a mutation of the Byakugan, and Uchiha Madara was the first Uchiha, that would mean that the Hyuuga family should have been there, before Konoha was even founded. At least, that's the only way I think it would make sense. This is, unless the foundation was simply a formality, and the village already existed but was nameless.

^ Yeah, I don't think it's official, but it's generally accepted that the Hyuuga existed before Konoha. (I think it's also one of those things mentioned in the Tengu theory...)

It's actually quite a young village after all, not even a century old.

now that i think about it why is konoha so young and also how did the uchiha grow so fast and maybe the hyuuga clans is one of the old clans from the fire country so it just became related to konoha.

I'm a bit iffy on the history of Konoha. Did the 1st establish the Fire Country or Konoha Village? Because the Fire country is alot larger than just Konoha and I could see the Hyuuga village existing before Konoha, especially since I don't think the Hyuuga clan lives in Konoha Village.

The Hokage only applies for Konoha; so, I assume that the Shodaime only founded Konoha. (I wonder if each country has some sort of ruler, though.)

Unless I am mistaken, Neji and Hinata wear Konoha headbands (neckband in Hinata's case); so, I think it can be assumed the Hyuuga clan resides in Konohagakure.
