    Saying Itachi going blind
is like Guy/Rock Lee going to get heart failures/burn out due to constant heavy training.

but It's ok for him to go blind anyway, like that blind dou-jutsu character from Basilisk anime

Kisame also hinted on it, (twice even i believe), but all they say is that thier eyesight is getting worse, in which way is unknown.

it could be hes just going color blind, or his eyes are turning into true kaleidoscopes
I belive he is almost blind and is the reason why he haves to constantly use the Sharingan... have you see him with his normal eye color? nah he is as blind as a tree

Using Sharingan drains chakra, wouldn't make sense. After fleeing from Jiraiya and overusing his Magekyou Sharingan, his eyes turned normal. He isn't blind, Kakashi knows the strain it put on the eyes to use MANGEKYOU SHARINGAN, therefore he stated it. Itachi was like "it couldn't be you [achieved MK as well]...?" There aren't many enemies Itachi has to use his MK in order to win in the first place. Maybe his eyes just started to get worse or he loses control of MS, who knows.

But using the mangekyo probably does strain the eyes. In both the mangekyo techniques Itachi performs, his eyes always go bloodshot and look like they're cracking apart before he performs them.

I think that going blind only applies to kakashi because his normal sharingan already uses up more chakra then when Itachi uses it. So it could be possible that the MS has a worse effect on kakashi like it makes his eyesight worse.

^ How do you figure that? I don't remember reading in the manga that it takes more chakra for him. For the Mangekyou Sharingan, that's definitely true--but I think that's more due to lack of experience than birthright.

^ It "strains his body", whatever that's supposed to mean.

The effect is that he can't use it for extended periods of time without resting afterwards, unlike Itachi or Sasuke.

I think people are probably exaggerating or overstating the extent of Itachi's bad vision. Itachi would be smart enough to figure out that using MS effected his vision. I doubt he would use it to the point where it would cause serious blindness.

The way I see it, Itachi would have to have extraordinary normal vision to be as good as he was. All of those kunei throwing practices were basically perfect. Can't do that with average or sub par vision. I think that his vision has deteriorated, but obviously not to the point where it would effect day to day living. Maybe his vision is slightly blurry at distances. Like he's near sighted or something.

It seems to me (I could be wrong) that Sharingan is not an alternate form of vision but just a heightening of your current vision. So if something is blurry when it's on, it will be blurry when it's on. Just slower and in different colors.

The looking out in the distance thing could just be him being contemplative. A lot of people do that kind of stuff in animes/manga. Makes them look all cool & mysterious lol.

^ That's basically what I thought it would look like with the Sharingan. That's what it how it was when we saw it from Sasuke's point of view. And I also agree that Itachi has to have really good motion vision to do stuff like that, so it's probably only dropped to "above average" if it has deteriorated.

You also have to consider that even Kakashi and Orochimaru weren't able to exploit that weakness. So the bearing it would have on the series is questionable at best.

It definitely has to affect the vision when the sharingan is on, after all Kakashi can't turn it off, how can he notice it if the sharingan overrides the deteriorated "normal" vision?
