Magi - I agree, mostly because I don't think you could use the Sharingan if you were TOTALLY blind. But that's just speculation on my part.

The blind badass himself, Tousen Kaname. And as far as the ability to use the Sharingan when blind or any doujutsu for that matter I'd say Hyoma from basilisk proves that can still be possible. But I dunno, that would be a bit of a steal to use that as an explanation.

Kisame also hinted on it, (twice even i believe), but all they say is that thier eyesight is getting worse, in which way is unknown.

it could be hes just going color blind, or his eyes are turning into true kaleidoscopes

You have to actually see something to use the sharingan's normal abilities though, I guess you can launch Ameterasu without a target, though I'm not sure what the point of doing something like that is.

And it does seem that the eye is effected when the sharingan is "on" (whether or not it is at other times is unclear), since Kakashi can never turn his off, it doesn't make sense that he can notice any deterioration in visual perception if the sharingan overrides what the eye normally sees.

Well, yeah--but the concept of completely blind ass-kickers isn't a new one. Just look at Zatoichi. I only have a problem with Itachi joining their fold because I think you need to be able to see to use doujutsu. And Kishi hasn't suggested otherwise.

^ Well, there's that...and the fact that they'd be yelling at him to stop once he started killing the first few. So he'd have to be deaf to not know what was going on, and that simply wouldn't make sense.

On topic, I just hope it doesn't become an issue for Sasuke before/during his last fight with Naruto. That would be a huge cop-out on Kubo's part, and he can't afford anymore in regards to those two.
