Thread: Is Sasuke ready for Itachi?

Or does he still have some work to do? He handled himself pretty well against a strong Akatsuki opponent. His battle prowess is definitely top notch. Here's my very simplistic breakdown in terms of basic abilities:

Taijutsu: I think Sasuke may have a slight advantage in speed and close range fighting ability.

Edge: Sasuke

Ninjutsu: From what we've seen so far, Itachi has plenty of jutsus and some pretty powerful ones, like amaterasu. Sasuke's shown a lot of development in this area, but I doubt he has the repertoire of Itachi.

Edge: Itachi

Genjutsu: Sasuke's much better in this department as well, and apparently has the potential to surpass Itachi here. But still no MS, unless he considered Orochimaru his bosom buddy.

Edge: Itachi

Sharingan: see Genjutsu. However, Sasuke may upgrade his sharingan in ways other than genjutsu.

Overall, I think he'd lose now. But I also think he's very close to surpassing Itachi.

I share your view. I think Sasuke is close but not quite there. But one factor you didn't mention about Itachi is that his stronger genjutsu take quite a toll on him.

the mysterious figure that talked to pein (AL) knew that sasuke will surpass itachi's eyes. since he can use genjutsu and space jutsu at the same time, that act he did could justify that he has the countermeasure to MS.
he'd had the advantage in taijutsu since he has the kusanagi sword but he'd also had a hard time with itachi's fast kage bunshins...but in terms of genjutsu i think itachi wins since he can even use even a finger to cast a spell, so sasuke's gonna have to effort on genjutsu.
but if they fight right now i think sasuke could manage a draw, a bloody draw.

too true, BUT we need to talk about the conditions. conditions can play a huge role in deciding who wins besides overall ability of the ninja

I Itachi would let himself get killed like Sasori, he'd lose.
I think if Sasuke could kill Itachi right now, it would
1. make Itachi look kinda weak. Just three years training and then win against Ms. It doesn't really make Itachi look strong to me.
2. Portray a false attitude. He cuts his bonds, goes to Oro (which is like betraying Konoha and his friends), he is doing evil things, he is using Oro's jutsu, he is using people etc.
If he can beat Itachi with that.
I'd rather see that he failed and in the end realizes he needs his friends to be truly strong. Corny, I know.

But it's not that different form the Garaa/Naruto theme. You can only be really strong if you fight for someone and not yourself. The path Sasuke choose should not lead to his goal.
My two cents

Itachi's stronger... Sure his eyes are getting worse, but you can't say that "omfg, Sasuke's way stronger now" just because you think Itachi hasn't been training for 2.5 years too.

Sure, Sasuke leads a bunch of ragtag queerbaits around with him, but that doesn't make them stronger than Kisame... (maybe the Fuuin guy though).


Until we see Sasuke pulling stuff like turning genjutsu from them to the caster, Amaterasu, or fighting as fast as Itachi did pre-skip, he's got no chance.

Blind Itachi > Sasuke, btw. ^_^

^ Summonings and Hiraishin, only two things so far directly named as such, there's probably others too though.

^the type of ninjutsu that instantly transports you from one place to another. Two examples are they way how summoning animals are summoned and yondaime's hiraishin no jutsu.
