Does anyone else think that maybe Pain is setting up a plan to kill Itachi? It's clear that at the end of the chapter that Pain knows that Sauske isn't dead and it seems that Pain won't go off and kill Itachi himself because he's been told go after Naruto. I just feel it's really strange that Pain/UL would do that unless they are setting up a Naruto vs Pain fight and a Itachi vs Sauske fight. The only reason why I can see Pain telling Itachi that Sauske was dead might be to sort of disappoint Itachi to maybe weaken his spirit but in my opinion Itachi doesn't seem like a person who would believe Sauske being dead unless he had first hand proof.
The reason why I bring up Sauske vs Itachi is because Pain gave info about Sauske has to be for some reason. Why would they tell him this when pain clearly knows sauske is alive? Itachi is going to figure out that his brother isn't dead. Telling him sauskes dead might throw Itachi "off his game" for a little bit but it doesn't seem like Itachi is going to fight anyone soon unless they go after Naruto as well.
Which brings up my next point, wasn't Itachi supposed to go after Naruto? Itachi was going to get the Nine-tails right? or am I just mixing up stuff..
Also another quick thing... Back when Sauske went to look under the Shrine they had at the Uchiha household, Itachi said that there was a scroll or tablet of how to get the Mandro Sharigan (sp.. sorry) To me, it seemed like there could be another type of Sharigan past the Mandro, thus why Itachi would let sauske live if he knew Sauske had the posiblity to make the clan greater. Cause I thought Itachi said that back either before or after he killed off the clan that Uchiha clan wasn't living up to how powerful they could be. If two Mandro Sharigan fighters fought wouldn't that make the eye more advanced in some way or another or it would have to evolve somehow. But maybe I'm just going on a weird random rant. i just always had this theory. I wanted to know if anyone else thought something sort of the same. I guess I just always thought it was weird that they never showed the plaque or scroll about the Mandro Sharigan in the anime or manga (unless they did in the manga and i didn't catch it).

^ We don't know what he found in the shrine, just that it was the clan secret, the existence of the MS doesn't seem to warrant that level of secrecy, after all, Sasuke was immediately told about it after he asked his dad, it's probably something else.

Shadow man seems to like the idea of Sasuke's development. Maybe he can make a deal with Sasuke. Give him the location of Itachi in return for his enlistment into Akatsuki if he succeeds in killing Itachi.
Just curious, though. When shadow guy says Sasuke will have better eyes than Itachi, is that supposed to imply that he will become stronger than Itachi? I think Itachi still has the advantage in the ninjutsu department.

I think its implied that Sasuke will be stronger, but you do bring up a good point. Maybe this statement was just to trip us up into missing that possibility.

What Itachi said was that the sharingan secret was hidden there,

^I agree. Having AL actually killing Naruto would be something un-Kishi-ish. You can only pull of the jinchuuriki revival so many times (aka once). I don't see Kyuubi getting released soon though. If that happens, that will be in quite a while.
