I do not think that resumes count any longer; I am sure that Kakuzu had a great resume himself, and was defeated (quite easily) by Naruto.
We do not know Itachi's true strength. He may be way stronger than what he has shown, or just a bit (I am sure that we haven't seen him at his max). Then again, we (probably) have not seen all what Sasuke can do, or him fighting at his maximum capabilities, either.
In the hypothetical case that they have a fight, I do not think that Sasuke would be superior to Itachi, actually, I think it would be the other way around; yet, then again, unlike their previous encounters, I think that Sasuke would be in waaaay better grounds, and would be able to keep up with Itachi's abilities. Itachi has the highest chances to win, but I am sure he wouldn't end up unharmed, if he doesn't end up, actually, in a bad state.
Then again, I have already said it, and I will say it again, I do not think that Sasuke and Itachi will be having a definite battle (or even just an actual battle) anytime soon. Unless Kishimoto is planning on ending the manga some chapters, from now, it would be anti-climatic to have them finish their stories (With this I mean, the "Sasuke wants to kill Itachi" story that has been there, almost since the beginning of the manga).
The only way I can see a battle happening, would be if it is a minor one, and it would have more words, than actual fighting. It would also end abruptly, and I wouldn't be surprised if Itachi tells Sasuke something interesting (for us, the readers) that would expand the whole mystery behind Itachi's actions, and the Uchiha clan story.
what i ment before was if sasuke fought itachi itachi could mention him as a failure for not having the MS since even someone not of the blood has MS.
Then sasuke goes after kakashi suspecting he has it
but i really doubt that will happen
i think the mangakas writing himself into a bind i wouldnt be surprised if during the fight itachi creates an illusion of himself dying then runs off to america and marries a blond woman leaving sasuke to figure out what he wants to do with his life (as his only reason for being alive is his brother whats hes seriously gonna do? own a ramen shop with naruto and sakura?)
i also think the whole narutoXsakura relationship is beyond shipped
^The theory is surprisingly plausible. We've seen all the unexpected tech. with the AL picture of him sitting on the super-ship.
But, seriously though, I like Dant'es idea about having a short battle with Itachi, possibly in the same kawarimi format as the team Naruto v. kawarimi team Itachi went.
no itachi could of killed Orochimaru along time ago before the whole 2 1/2 years. i believe he didnt do it because it was out of his way to do it while focusing on his main goal.
probably since AL wanted itachi and co to do other things in that 2.5 years so he left oro alive.
i wouldnt mind if they fought and itachi won again...
i like his "you lack hatred" dialogue.
Since no one else is really saying it; I really think you predicted that perfectly.

Think so, too. Thats a good prediction.
I can really see a fight Sasuke-Itachi coming, with Itachi winning and leaving with some "you lack hatred"-Emo-dialogue, and some new revealings to Itachis ambition.
I think people are assuming two very important things.
The first is do we actually know that Orochimaru is dead? We know that Sasuke thinks he is, but Orochimaru had more then a few lifetimes worth of experience over him. I think we might see him pop up at a bad time from inside Sasuke and play "I'm taking over your body when you least expect it". It's not as if it's never been done in manga before.
The second thing is to consider Itachi. Playing it smart he should have killed his brother rather then shaping him into someone devoted to vengence. We know there's a ritual to gain the MS, what if Itachi is planning to take it to the next step? That transforms Itachi from someone who butchered his family for seemingly no reason to someone who did it to eventually gain even more power.
