Prediction :
Itachi's goal is 100% different than Akatsuki's world domination goal.
There's no reason itachi wouldnt be the leader unless he had some other kind of plot that he was just using the akatsuki for.
No idea what he really wants to do...but i doubt it has anything to do with money/ world domination
Maybe Itachi is going to attmpt to become a demon, Or he wants to use the sharingan to steal the chakra from all the tails-demons.

But its expensive, and being on the Bingo book and all, its hard to get some work, so he joined akatsuki!
Why he joined them? he is strong, and want to test himself, being with them is for sure some strong people will come, he just have to sit and wait, and do some stuff that AL ask
i think itachi must have read somehting by this mysterious uchiha madara guy to show how to make a perfect fighter. and he chose sasuke to be that person, so going along with the plan he killed everyone except him to make sasuke into a coldblooded fighter. that's my theory. either that or he got mad at the uchiha's fo rnot giving him good birthday ifts so he killed them all, forgot sasuke, couldn't be bothered to finish him off, and ran away and joined akatsuki to escape from pursuit and because akatsuki offered free nailpolish by the bucket. :D
If I had Sharingan I would just hang out with the strongest i can find being able to learn every jutsu and the end makes the most powerfull ninja there is
what more reason he needs?
never thought of it that way seal broken but yeah that counts too.
