The number of RPG players who appreciate a good RPG outweighs the number of Narutards like yourself. Most anime/manga based games fail horribly when compared to other titles in the same genre. Compare any Naruto fighting game to the likes of Soul Calibur 3 or Virtua Fighter 5 and check the sales of these games to any Naruto game. The Naruto RPG games on the GBA failed miserably in Japan where there's the highest number of Naruto fans when you compare them to the RE-HASHED Final Fantasy titles that appeared on the Nintendo handheld platform. Let's say I walk into EB Games tomorrow and I see Final Fantasy XII, Mass Effect and a Naruto RPG, which one do you think people people would buy?
Learn that just because a game uses a world and materials from something you happen to like will make the game a triple-A title that will stack up against games that are built from ground-up to be a good game and not just some fanboy-satiating form of entertainment that happens to be called a video game.
That doesn't mean it has to be this way though.
The fact that there are great games in those genres means that it is possible to make a great game.
And the vast world of Naruto and One Piece are big enough to be played in.
You just have the right people make the game. Both mangas give creators the freedom to do everything basically. FF would be a good guide.
With a great story and many sidequests to do and people to interact.
One Piece fighting mode could be Tekken/Soulcalibur like I think.
With Naruto I would do something in a bigger scale unless it hand to hand combat.
Because for ninjutsu you need to have time (it should be harder to do tha just pree R2 + X)and distance. Sometimes you have to get back and hide yourself to find an opening or think about a way of beating the enemy.
That was also the problem of the DBZ games. They were too close up for that kind of fighting, or rather you couldn't gain enough distance.
And it couldn't hurt to build animated sequenzes into fighting. If you do a certain move and your opponent does the right thing there appears a little sequence. Not crappy animated and without loading time.
If done the right way, mixing animated sequences into fighting (with different camera moves, slowmotion, facial reactions etc) could give it a feeling of watching real movie, instead of playing just some randome Tekken like fighting game.
Not that there is a Animegame like that, but there could and should be.
Hopefully there will be one in the future, because I'm already waiting for years for it to happen.
And it must be in japanese.
(but with english subs....they seem to forget that in a lot of games *gg*)
