Sasuke still desires his brother's recognition

I think that Sasuke wants to be recognized by his brother just as badly if not more then he wants revenge.

He is following his brothers plans for him almost perfectly. He told Sasuke to live and gain power through hatred and that is exactly what he did by leaving Konoha and his friends. Sasuke gained a small victory by not killing Naruto but I would still say he is being his brothers puppet and gaining power the way his brother wanted. Itachi's whole plan for Sasuke was to seek revenge and carrying that out is partially because he wants recognition.

To further illustrate my point look when Itachi meets Sasuke again. Sasuke tells Itachi that he has been doing just as he was told, living to kill him and hating him. When Sasuke wakes up he is most upset that Itachi was after Naruto and not himself. His jealousy from before becomes even worse. He wanted his brother's attention and recognition but instead Naruto got it. When he wakes up he doesn't worry that his brother is trying to kill his loved ones again, instead he just gets mad because Naruto is getting the attention.

Gaara, after his fight with Kimimaro, says that people can't always choose who their special people are. I think that even though Sasuke does hate his brother he can't help but want the recognition he has desired since the flashbacks when he was a small child.

i think he might be sorta be seeking recognition. i'm not too sure about it though.

Pretty good insight. This could be a reason why Sasuke might NOT kill Itachi in the end.

Sasuke got confused about the meaning of Itachi looking for Naruto. He thought he was looking for Naruto as a potential candidate for something, where in reality, Itachi was after Naruto because of the Kyuubi.

It appears though, however, that in order for Sasuke to gain Itachi's recognition, Itachi must be in a near death state caused by Sasuke and only Sasuke. That...and then Itachi dies :3.

I agree with "SixthAngel", because remember when Itachi came to konoha to look for Naruto? when sasuke found out, what was his initial reaction?:"after all this time, he comes back and now he's looking for Naruto??",

If only Itachi had just taken him for shuriken practice...

Recognition, probably. Itachi always blew off Sasuke, he was never taken seriously. He was always the best in the academy, but was eclipsed by his brother. I always saw it as also his desire to be acknowledged by his father. So surpassing Itachi would prove to himself and to his father that he is an honorable Uchiha worthy of the fan.

Or maybe he just wants to kill Itachi so he becomes the beneficiary of the Uchiha estate.

the thing is, calling Itachi a genius, would be an understatement. so its no wonder that people weren't surprise at what sasuke was doing.

i had never realy put much thaught into why sasuke always wanted to get stronger (besides killing itachi).sasuke wanting some recognition makes sense....but if in the end he doesnt kill itachi......i will be fukin pissed.

I don't think Sasuke wants Itachi's recognition anymore. He lost his admiration for Itachi when Itachi killed the clan. Sure, Sasuke was jealous/angry at Naruto for being the object of Itachi's attention earlier, but I think thats because Sasuke was annoyed that Itachi didn't really take Sasuke as enough of a threat at that point. Sasuke is getting stronger at this point so he can kill his brother to avenge the clan (as we all know).
