^No, he was an ANBU team captain, and if I remember correctly had the highest performance record in ANBU (during the years of Sandaime, but this doesn't make alot of sense because kakashi was also in ANBU during the years of Sandaime). Don't ask me where, I just remember this information.

Kakashi was an anbu since Yondaime, remember the kakashi gaiden arc?

But Kakashi wasn't in ANBU during Kakashi Gaiden. He had just been promoted to Jounin and was going on missions with his original squad, probably not something an ANBU operative would do.

Though you're probably right that the Yondaime promoted Kakashi to ANBU while he was Hokage.

Yes, thats completely possible. But Yondaime died, and Sarutobi carried on the responsibilities again. I'm sure Yondaime wasn't Hokage for very long, & probably was given the job shortly after Gaiden (Kakashi was appointed a Jonin at age 13, Naruto was 12 in Part One, so Yondaime died 12 years before the start of Naruto. Kakashi was only 27 during Part One, so 27-12= 15, therefore Kakashi was ~15 when Yondaime sealed Kyubi inside Naruto, which then means that Yondaime was Hokage for probably a little over a year).

But going back to Yamato, Tsunade chose him not only because he is able to control Biju, but because he is talented. The major concern of Konoha at that time was not allowing Naruto to be taken by Akatsuki. This was when Tsunade argued with the elders. She chose a team captain who would be able to at least offer adequate protection for Naruto from Akatsuki. He might not be a Kakashi, but he is Jonin who could knock up Kurenai in more ways than one.

sorry i think i made a mistake, I mistook him being jounin as him being anbu captain. Itachi was the one who was anbu captain at 13.

It might have been. It all depends on when Obito and Rin graduated from the academy. Kakashi graduated at 5 and was a chunin at age 6 (maybe . Obito only graduated from the academy at age 9. I highly doubt they were in the same team all the time, if Kakashi was a chunin when Rin/Obito were still learning Henge no jutsu in the academy. Kakashi was better than Itachi in their respective childhood.
