The shippuden is getting better than the anime's quality. Man, this really make me more exciting.

Since when did Asuma and Kurenai defeat Itachi and Kisame? Man, thats why I dislike the anime sometimes, pure fabrication of facts. Othertimes it's cool, because it highlights character abilities (& gender), like Deidara's eye.

Yup, even Jiraiya and the hokage is there to see the fight between Kakashi and his team. Isn't in manga they were all alone?

I suppose the word "defeat" was used to mean that they survived Itachi and Kisame. And by survived, i meant didn't end up killed, whether the two Akatsuki wanted to kill them or not.

I was surprised when they called Kakashi, Kurenai and Asuma three of their best jounins. Does that mean Gai isn't?

The quality of the fighting scene of Team Kakashi is comparable with the fillers of Naruto 1, and also the Rasengan. At least they stick with it

I just reread most of the manga and Kurenai and co really did defeat them. Later on someone mentions that they left because Itachi was almost out of chakra from using the MS, and that once Gai showed up they had little chance of success even with Kakashi out of the picture.

Imho I think Gai is stronger than Kakashi.

^ Not really. Itachi only ran out of chakra once he used Amaterasu right after Tsukiyomi when Jiraiya arrived (in that building where Sasuke ran to). The reason they didn't fight Gai was because more shinobi would come, and Itachi doesn't seem to like unnecessary fighting. They were after Naruto, not those Jonin. It's been a while since I've read the chapter. But I also think that Gai arrived after Kakashi collapsed from Tsukiyomi, and Kurenai/Asuma still had their eyes closed. If that's winning, an ostrich always wins (they supposedly bury their head in the ground when an enemy approaches, and since they cant see the enemy they assume the enemy cant see them either). If Gai hadn't arrived they would have been dead. Remember also that guy had to open 6 gates just to beat a 30% Kisame. This was the same fight when Kurenai attempted genin level genjutsu on Itachi (come on, what was she thinking, any genjutsu is genin level to Itachi).
*Gai has more wins than Kakashi in their little "rivalry", but Kakashi is ranked as the best Jonin in Konoha (pre-timeskip).
