Probably not, remember the genjutsu Kabuto cast on the stadium during the chunin exam? No one actually saw it, but everyone was affected. The foul mouthed girl from the sound four used a flute. Also, usually genjutsu uses handseals, and someone can just not look into the persons eyes. I think eye contact is only required for Tsukiyomi and other specifically Uchiha type genjutsu (like suggestion of jutsu into the persons mind).

Speaking of Gaara's shield of sand; did anyone ever wonder why when - way, way, waaay back when Sasuke fought Gaara in the chuunin exam - Sasuke didn't try to melt Gaara's shield into glass with a fire jutsu? I've always figured that would be a good way to counter it, but I've yet to see anyone try.

isn't Gaara's sand ball thing like an earth jutsu, so the best way to peirce it by the narutoverse is using lightning thats why he used chidori.

He used chidori because it was the only technique ment for piercing and the strongest jutsu he knew, not because it's lightning nature has an advantage over earth.

Kishi made a mistake with that nature chakra thing. Now that it's been introduced way too many people think that decides the winner. It doesn't. The stronger jutsu will win most of the time.
