About LinkBacksI think a big point here was: He's said "I'm running out" or Hidan/Kakuzu has said "So you've run out." about three times now. It's starting to seem like he is giving up or drawing back rather than just running out.

maybe its strategically smarter to let the enemy think youre out of ammo when youre far from it... it seems extremely odd that a Chuunin like Shikamaru would have such a small amount of chakra... i mean he seems to be worse off than Tenten half the time.

Exactly as Jahnin said,
On the chuunin exams he said that he can't hold for more then 5 minutes. I also though, each 5min hold consume some of his chackra. and maybe he has like 4-5 holds per day
Also considering that he has to give asuma's knifes the same ammount of chackra to hold someone

Shikamaru is still a chuunin? I thought he was a Jounin like Neji now. He should be, because if he is and you guys got everything mixed up then I would like to clarify Jounin is higher than Chuunin
