I also think what hand seals are just way to focus chakra and alert it instinctively -- like predifined patterns of chakra manipulation. So, when you wabt to perform a jutsu what reqeries concentrating chakra at your lungs, altering it to Fire element, and forming a big ball of fire breath at pointed area afterwards, you can eiter do all of it on a pure chakra controle (what is pretty hardcore) or use pre-learned patterns "concentrate chakra at lungs', "change chakra at Fire element" and "form a ball of chakra at pointed area". And when you want to send fire breatche trough the wife, you can use "concentrate chakra at lungs', "change chakra at Fire element" and "put chakra on object"

that's how i think:
juitsu = hand seals (or shaping chacra in rasengan) + chacra
juitsu (elemental) = elements + hand seals + chacra
end.

elements are as we've seen so far is based on a person's nature and from what it seems nothing else

What would be cool is gloves with 10 jutsu's one on each finger and the way you activate them is... Well however you do it, it does not matter it would kick ass either way...

i personally think that handseals are a way of making jutsu look cooler wit all the fast movements and all

The way I see it that, hand seals were first created to simplify the method of passing down a Jutsu.

I saw an explanation where, the seals are like a chant for a spell, to activate the spell, and release the stored chakra.

Naruto's rasengan is basic, because its simply your own chakra..
But what turns into a A class Jutsu, its the way its made, and the amount of Chakra needed anyone could do a rasengan, but the extend of its potential is limited to their chakra..

Handseals are the same as Goku shouting Kamehameha !

No the seals gotta do somthing useful. they alredy shout the name of the jutsu enough.

Well we could also compare the seals to you and we would have our answer.

This is the closest to it I believe. When Naruto was learning the Rasengan Jiraiya told him that he didn't even need to learn the (complicated) hand seals.

So that means either: A) Rasengan has handseals, but does not require them or B) I read a wonky translation that skewed the naunces of the conversation.

In either case, I think that handseals just simplify the process to make it easier to use things, but it doesn't have that many options as all the seals correspond to the Chinese Zodiac. (At least from what I've seen.)

An interesting note is that some seem to have extraordinarily long combinations. If you look at the battle between Kakashi and Zabuza, when Kakashi copies that big water explosion thing it shows over 100 handseals behind the text. This leads me to believe Jiraiya taught Naruto Rasengan with no handseals because it would be so complicated that Naruto would have no chance of remembering it, as he is an idiot.
